Plajda bir şeyin var olduğunu söylerken There is ya da There are deriz. Türkçesi "... var" demektir:
- There is → tek bir şey için (one thing)There is a boat on the sea. (Denizde bir tekne var.)
- There are → birden çok şey için (many things)There are two shells. (İki deniz kabuğu var.)
- Bir tane mi? → There is (There's). Birden çok mu? → There are.
- Plajda gördüklerini anlatmak için harika! There is sand. There are two umbrellas.
1. There is = Tek Şey (one thing)
Bir tane şey için There is kullanırız. Genelde yanında a ya da an vardır. Kum, su gibi sayamadığımız şeyler de (uncountable) There is alır:

- Tek şey mi? → There is. Sesli harfle başlarsa an: an ice cream, an umbrella.
- There is = There's (konuşurken kısaltırız).
2. There are = Çok Şey (two or more)
Birden çok şey için There are kullanırız. Yanında bir sayı (two, three...) ya da çoğul bir kelime (shells, boats) olur. Çoğul kelimelerin sonunda -s vardır:

- Çok şey mi? → There are + çoğul (shells, boats, waves).
- There are kısalmaz. "There're" yazmayız — hep There are.
3. be = am / is / are (I am, It is, We are)
Bir şeyin ne olduğunu ya da nasıl hissettiğimizi söylemek için be fiilini (am / is / are) kullanırız. Türkçede çoğu zaman söylenmez ama İngilizcede şart:

- I → am. He/She/It ve tek şey → is. We/You/They ve çoğul → are.
4. can = Yapabilmek (I can swim!)
Bir şeyi yapabildiğimizi söylemek için can kullanırız. can'den sonra fiil sade gelir (to yok, -s yok):

- can'den sonra to yazmayız: "I can swim." ✓ (I can to swim ✗).
- Herkes için aynı: I can, she can, we can (cans yok).
5. Olumsuz ve Soru (isn't / aren't · Is there? / Can you?)
Yok demek için There isn't / There aren't deriz. Soru sorarken Is there...? / Are there...? / Can you...? ile başlarız:

- Tek şey → Is there...? Çok şey → Are there...? Soruda genelde any gelir.

İki çocuk plajda konuşuyor. Koyu yazılan kelimelere dikkat et ve iki kez oku:

Today we are at the beach. It is a sunny day. The sun is hot and the sky is blue. There is a lot of sand on the beach. The sand is soft and warm. I am very happy!

I can swim! I swim with my dad. My sister can't swim, but she can play in the sand. She makes a big sandcastle. There are five shells on her sandcastle. The shells are white and pink.
I can swim well because my dad teaches me. We jump in the water together and we laugh. My little sister can't swim yet, but she is happy in the sand. She builds a big sandcastle with her small bucket. There are five white and pink shells on it, and she puts them on top with a big smile.
Is there a dog on the beach? Yes, there is! A brown dog runs on the sand. It is happy too. There isn't a shop near us, but we have water and fruit in our bag. We love the beach!
