Bir şeyin nerede olduğunu söylemek için küçük kelimeler kullanırız. Önce örneklere bak:
- The toy is in the bag.Oyuncak çantanın içinde. (in = içinde)
- The cat is on the box.Kedi kutunun üstünde. (on = üstünde)
- The ball is under the chair.Top sandalyenin altında. (under = altında)
- in = içinde · on = üstünde · under = altında.
- Kalıp: nesne + is/are + yer kelimesi + the + yer.
- "The book is on the table." (Kitap masanın üstünde.)
1. in / on / under (İçinde / Üstünde / Altında)
Bu üç kelime çok kolay. Resme bakar gibi düşün: içinde mi, üstünde mi, altında mı?

- Kutunun içinde → in. Masanın üstünde → on.

2. next to / behind (Yanında / Arkasında)
İki kelime daha! next to = yanında (yan yana), behind = arkasında (arkada saklı):

- next to iki kelimedir: "next to the bed" (yatağın yanında).
- behind = arkasında: "behind the door" (kapının arkasında).
3. is / are ile kullan (Özet Tablo)
Yer kelimesinden önce is ya da are gelir. Tek şey → is, çok şey → are:

- Tek nesne → is. Çoğul nesne (-s) → are.
- "The toys is in the box" ✗ → "The toys are in the box" ✓.
4. Olumsuz (is not / are not)
"Değil" demek için not ekleriz: is not = isn't, are not = aren't:

- is + not → isn't. are + not → aren't.
- "The ball isn't in the box." (Top kutunun içinde değil.)
5. Where is ...? / Where are ...? (Soru + Cevap)
"Nerede?" diye sormak için Where is (tek) ya da Where are (çok) kullanırız:

- Yer kelimeleri: in (içinde), on (üstünde), under (altında), next to (yanında), behind (arkasında). Tek şey → is, çok şey → are. Soru: Where is / Where are en başa gelir.
6. In My Room (Mini Diyalog)
İki arkadaş odadaki eşyaların yerini konuşuyor. Koyu kelimelere dikkat et ve iki kez oku:
- — Where is the cat? — It is on the bed.— Kedi nerede? — Yatağın üstünde.
- — Where are your toys? — They are in the box.— Oyuncakların nerede? — Kutunun içinde.
- — Where is the ball? — It is under the chair.— Top nerede? — Sandalyenin altında.
- — The chair is behind the door, and the bed is next to the window.— Sandalye kapının arkasında, yatak da pencerenin yanında.
- "The cat is in the bed" ✗ → "The cat is on the bed" ✓ (üstünde).
- "The toys is in the box" ✗ → "The toys are in the box" ✓ (çoğul).
- "The bed is next the window" ✗ → "The bed is next to the window" ✓.
