Neden Question Tags?

Bir şeyden emin olmak ya da karşındakinden onay istemek için cümlenin sonuna küçük bir soru eklersin: "You are Turkish, aren't you?" Bu koyu kısma question tag (soru eki) denir. Türkçesi çoğu zaman "değil mi?"dir. Sadece iki kelimeden oluşur — bir yardımcı fiil ve bir zamir — ama kuralı bilmezsen kolayca şaşırırsın.

Bu bölümde altın kuralı (olumlu→olumsuz, olumsuz→olumlu), be / do / have / modal eşleşmesini ve birkaç önemli istisnayı öğreneceğiz. Adım adım gidelim.

1. Altın Kural (Positive ↔ Negative)

Question tag'in mantığı bir terazi gibidir: cümle bir yöne giderse, ek ters yöne gider. Cümle olumluysa ek olumsuz; cümle olumsuzsa ek olumlu olur. Ayrıca ek, cümledeki yardımcı fiili ve öznenin zamirini tekrar eder.

Kolay hatırlatma

Olumlu cümle → olumsuz ek (isn't, don't, can't...).
Olumsuz cümle → olumlu ek (is, do, can...).
Ekteki zamir özneyle aynıdır: your sister → she, the boys → they.

2. be Fiili ile (am / is / are / was / were)

Cümlede be fiili (am, is, are, was, were) varsa, soru eki de aynı be fiilini kullanır. Başka yardımcıya gerek yoktur.

You are ready, aren't you?Hazırsın, değil mi?
He wasn't at home, was he?O evde değildi, değil mi?
The shops are open, aren't they?Dükkânlar açık, değil mi?

Dikkat

"There is / There are" ile ek de there kullanır: "There is a problem, isn't there?"
be varken do/does kullanma: "She is late, ~~doesn't she~~?" ✗ → isn't she? ✓

3. Yardımcı Fiil Yoksa: do / does / did

Cümlede be ya da modal yoksa (yani geniş zaman ya da geçmiş zaman düz fiil varsa), soru eki do / does / did ile kurulur — tıpkı normal soru yaparken olduğu gibi.

Küçük not

Ekte fiili tekrar etme: "You like juice, ~~like you~~?" ✗ → don't you? ✓
Olumsuz cümlede do/does/did olumlu döner: "You don't like spiders, do you?"

4. have ve Modal Fiiller (have / can / will / should...)

Cümlede bir modal (can, will, should, must...) ya da yardımcı have varsa, soru eki aynı kelimeyi tekrar eder.

Karıştırma

will'in olumsuzu won't: "He will help, won't he?"
have ana fiil ise (sahip olmak), ek do ile de olur: "You have a bike, don't you?"

5. İstisnalar (Special Cases)

Üç istisnayı ezberle — sınavda ve konuşmada en çok bunlar sorulur:

I am late,	aren't I?	"amn't I" yok; "aren't I" kullanılır.
Let's go,	shall we?	"Let's..." teklifi → hep shall we.
Open the door,	will you?	Emir cümlesi → will you.
She never lies,	does she?	never = olumsuz → olumlu ek.

Dikkat

never, nothing, nobody, no one gibi kelimeler cümleyi olumsuz yapar; bu yüzden ek olumlu olur.
"I'm right, aren't I?" ✓ — "amn't I?" ✗ (İngilizce'de yoktur).

6. Yaygın Hatalar (Common Mistakes)

Türkçe konuşanların soru eklerinde en sık yaptığı hatalar aşağıda. Kendi cümlelerini yazarken bu listeyle kontrol et:

You are tired, are you?	You are tired, aren't you?	Olumlu cümle → olumsuz ek.
She likes juice, likes she?	She likes juice, doesn't she?	Fiili tekrar etme; do/does kullan.

I am next, amn't I?	I am next, aren't I?	"amn't" yok; "aren't I" kullan.
Let's eat, will we?	Let's eat, shall we?	"Let's..." → shall we.
She never smiles, doesn't she?	She never smiles, does she?	never olumsuzdur → olumlu ek.

7. Uygulama: Kısa Sohbet (Model Dialogue)

Şimdi her şeyi bir arada görelim. Two friends chat before a trip. Koyu yazılan soru eklerine ve olumlu/olumsuz yöne dikkat ederek iki kez oku:

— The bus leaves at nine, doesn't it?Otobüs dokuzda kalkıyor, değil mi?

fully prepared for something (hazır)

arrive (v)

to reach a place (varmak, ulaşmak)

Syn: reach (ulaşmak) · Ant: leave (ayrılmak)

"They didn't arrive late, did they?"

quiet (adj)

with little or no noise (sessiz, sakin)

Syn: silent (sessiz) · Ant: noisy (gürültülü)

"The room is very quiet, isn't it?"

wonderful (adj)

very good; making you happy (harika, muhteşem)

Syn: great (harika) · Ant: terrible (berbat)

"It was a wonderful evening, wasn't it?"

careful (adj)

giving your full attention so nothing goes wrong (dikkatli)

Syn: attentive (özenli) · Ant: careless (dikkatsiz)

"You'll be careful, won't you?"

sure (adj)

certain; without any doubt (emin)

Syn: certain (kesin) · Ant: unsure (kararsız)

"You're sure about the date, aren't you?"

right (adj)

correct; true (doğru)

Production Task (Üretim Görevi)

Write 8 sentences that end with a question tag. Use at least 8 of the words above. (Her biri soru ekiyle biten 8 cümle yaz. Yukarıdaki kelimelerden en az 8'ini kullan.)

Reading: Planning the Surprise Party

Read the dialogue, then answer the questions. (Diyaloğu oku, sonra soruları cevapla.)

Before You Read (Okumadan Önce)

İyi okuyucular metne hazırlıklı girer. Before you read, think about these three questions (cevapları yazmana gerek yok):

Have you ever planned a surprise for someone? What did you do? (Hiç birine sürpriz hazırladın mı? Ne yaptın?)
The text is a conversation. Which little questions ("değil mi?") will you see a lot? (Metin bir sohbet. Hangi küçük soruları — "değil mi?" — çok göreceksin?)
Look at the title. Who is the party for, and does that person know about it? (Başlığa bak. Parti kimin için ve o kişi bundan haberdar mı?)

Nasıl okumalı?

1. tur: Metni durmadan, hızlıca oku. Konuyu yakala; her kelimeyi anlamak zorunda değilsin.
2. tur: Soruları oku, sonra cevapları metinde ara. Cümle sonundaki question tag'lere (aren't we, doesn't he, will you...) dikkat et.

Sürpriz parti: her ayrıntıyı "değil mi?" diye kontrol et.

Planning the Surprise Party

Aylin and Mert are planning a surprise party for their friend Can. Can's birthday is on Saturday, and he doesn't know anything about the party.

Aylin and Mert are very excited, and they are going to plan everything carefully. "This is going to be a big day, isn't it?" Aylin says. "It is," Mert answers. "We are going to make it perfect. We have a lot of work to do, don't we?" "Yes, we do. Let's start now, shall we?"

"We are going to have the party at your house, aren't we?" Aylin asks. "Yes, we are," Mert says. "My house is big enough, isn't it? We can put the table near the window." "That's a good idea. You've already bought the cake, haven't you?" Aylin asks. "No, not yet. I'll buy it tomorrow morning."

"We are going to need some balloons and lights, aren't we?" Aylin asks. "Yes, we are. I am going to buy them with the cake tomorrow," Mert says. "The room is going to look wonderful. We can put the balloons near the window, can't we?" "Of course we can. Can is going to love it."

"Okay. Can loves chocolate cake, doesn't he? Let's get a big chocolate one, shall we?" "Perfect. And we need to tell the other friends the time. They don't know it yet, do they?" "No, they don't. I'll send a message tonight. Everyone must arrive before eight, because Can comes at half past eight."

"The other friends are going to help us, aren't they?" Mert says. "They are. They are going to arrive early and wait in the kitchen. We are going to turn off the lights before Can comes, aren't we?" "Yes, we are. When he opens the door, we are all going to shout, Surprise!"

Bir arkadaşın hakkında tahminler yap ve her cümleyi bir question tag ile bitir. Make a guess about your partner and end each sentence with a question tag. Doğruysa "Yes, I do/am..." diye onaylasın; yanlışsa düzeltsin. Önce örnek diyaloğa bak:

Question Tags Sohbeti Doğallaştırır (Natural Conversation)

Sadece düz cümleler bir konuşmayı yapay gösterir. What makes a conversation sound real is question tags: onlarla bilgi doğrular ve karşındakinden onay istersin. Bir de bağlaçları (and, but, so, because, when...) eklersen, sohbetin akıcı ve gerçekçi olur.

Farkı gör — aynı bilgiler, iki farklı yazım:
