Yes/No soruları "evet ya da hayır" cevabı ister. Wh- soruları ise bilgi ister: ne, nerede, kim, ne zaman, neden, nasıl. Soru kelimesi her zaman en başta gelir, sonra is/are ya da do/does ekleriz:
- What is your name?Adın ne? (Wh + is)
- Where do you live?Nerede yaşıyorsun? (Wh + do + fiil)
- When does the film start?Film ne zaman başlıyor? (Wh + does + fiil)
- Kalıp 1: Wh + is/are + özne? (Where is your bag?)
- Kalıp 2: Wh + do/does + özne + fiil? (What do you want?)
1. Soru Kelimeleri (The Wh- Words)
Her soru kelimesi farklı bir bilgi ister. Bu tabloyu ezberle; hangi soruda hangisini kullanacağını gösterir:

- Cevabı düşün: yer → Where, kişi → Who, zaman → When, sebep → Why.
- "By bus / on foot" gibi bir yol cevabı istiyorsan → How.
2. be ile Soru (Wh + is / are)
Cümlede sadece am/is/are varsa (ana fiil yoksa), do/does kullanmayız. Soru kelimesinden sonra doğrudan is ya da are gelir:

- Tekil özne → is. Çoğul özne → are.
- "Where does your bag?" ✗ → "Where is your bag?" ✓ (ana fiil yok, do/does yok).
3. do / does ile Soru (Wh + do / does + fiil)
Cümlede bir ana fiil varsa (live, want, go, like...), yardımcı olarak do ya da does kullanırız. Özne he/she/it ise does, diğerlerinde do:

- does'tan sonra fiile -s ekleme: "What does she wants?" ✗ → "What does she want?" ✓.
- he/she/it → does, geri kalan hepsi → do.
4. How many / How much (Kaç tane? / Ne kadar?)
Miktar ya da fiyat sorarken How tek başına yetmez. Sayılabilen şeylerde How many, sayılamayan şeylerde ve fiyatta How much kullanırız:

- Tane tane sayabiliyorsan → How many. Su, para, zaman gibi ölçüyorsan → How much.
- Fiyat sorusu daima → How much is/are ...?
5. Sık Yapılan Hatalar (Common Mistakes)
Soru kurarken en sık şu hatalar yapılır. Bu tabloyu bir kontrol listesi gibi kullan:

- Wh kelimesi başa gelir. Ana fiil yoksa is/are; ana fiil varsa do/does + yalın fiil kullan. he/she/it → does. Aynı soruda hem be hem do/does olmaz.
6. Birlikte Görelim (Two Friends Chat)
İki genç yeni bir öğrenciyi konuşuyor. Koyu yazılan soru kelimelerine ve is/do/does biçimlerine dikkat et, iki kez oku:
- — Who is the new student in your class?Sınıfındaki yeni öğrenci kim?
- — His name is Mert. Where do you know him from?Adı Mert. Onu nereden tanıyorsun?
- — We play basketball together. Where does he live?Birlikte basketbol oynuyoruz. O nerede yaşıyor?

- "Where he lives?" ✗ → "Where does he live?" ✓ (do/does gerekli).
- "Who does the new student?" ✗ → "Who is the new student?" ✓ (ana fiil yok).
- "How much lessons?" ✗ → "How many lessons?" ✓ (lessons sayılabilir).

Deniz writes for the school magazine every month. Today he meets a new student, Mert, in the library and asks him some friendly questions for a short interview. Here are their questions and answers.
The library is quiet and warm. Deniz has a small notebook and a blue pen. He is happy because he loves his job at the magazine. Mert sits next to him and smiles. The two boys are friendly, and they talk for about ten minutes.
Deniz asks his questions one by one. He is not in a hurry. He wants Mert to feel calm and happy. Good questions always start with a question word, so Deniz uses What, Where, Who, When, Why and How. Every answer helps him write a good story for the magazine.
Deniz: Hi! What is your name? — Mert: My name is Mert, and I am fifteen years old.
Deniz: Where are you from? — Mert: I am from Bursa, but now I live in İzmir with my family.
Deniz: What is your surname? — Mert: My surname is Demir, but my friends just call me Mert.
Deniz: Where is your old school? — Mert: My old school is in Bursa, and I have many good friends there.
Deniz: When do you start school here? — Mert: I start next Monday, and I am a little nervous.
Deniz: Why are you nervous? — Mert: Because I don't know anyone yet. But new people here look friendly.
Deniz: Who is your favourite singer? — Mert: My favourite singer is Sezen Aksu. I listen to her songs every day.
Deniz: What is your favourite food? — Mert: My favourite food is pizza, but I also like fruit and vegetables.
Deniz: How do you come to school? — Mert: I usually come by bus, but sometimes my dad drives me.
Deniz: How do you come to school on rainy days? — Mert: On rainy days my dad drives me, but I like the bus more.
Deniz: What do you do after school? — Mert: I play basketball with my cousin. We practise three times a week.
Deniz: What do you do at the weekend? — Mert: On Saturday I play football with my cousin, and on Sunday I help my mum at home.
Deniz: What is your favourite sport? — Mert: My favourite sport is basketball, and I also like swimming in summer.
Deniz: What clubs do you want to join here? — Mert: I want to join the science club, and maybe the basketball team too.
Deniz listens to every answer with a big smile. He writes fast in his little notebook. He nods his head and asks the next question. The interview is short, but it is fun for both of them.
Deniz: How many people are there in your family? — Mert: There are five of us: my parents, my two sisters and me.
Deniz: How many sisters do you have? — Mert: I have two sisters, and they are younger than me.
Deniz: Who do you live with? — Mert: I live with my mum, my dad and my two sisters.
Deniz: How much is a bus ticket in İzmir? — Mert: It isn't expensive. Students pay very little.
Deniz: What is your favourite subject at school? — Mert: I really like science, and I am good at maths too.
Deniz: How many lessons do you have on Monday? — Mert: I have six lessons on Monday, and my favourite one is science.
Deniz: When do you go to bed on school nights? — Mert: I go to bed at ten o'clock, so I am not tired in the morning.
Deniz: Who helps you with your homework? — Mert: My cousin helps me sometimes, because he is very good at maths.
Deniz: Where do you want to study one day? — Mert: I want to study in Istanbul, because the universities there are great.
Deniz: How do you feel now? — Mert: I feel good now, because you are friendly and the school looks very nice.
Mert asks Deniz a question too. He says, "What time does the magazine come out?" Deniz laughs and says, "Next week! Then everyone can read about you."
Now Deniz has many good answers in his notebook. He is very happy with the interview. Mert is happy too, because he has a new friend on his first week. School is not so scary now.
Deniz writes all the answers in his notebook. He thinks Mert is friendly and interesting. Next week the interview is in the school magazine, and everyone can read about the new student. Good questions always start with a Wh- word: what, where, who, when, why or how.
