Kısa bir video dinle ve izle. (Listen and watch a short video.)
Video çok yakında burada olacak!am, is, are şimdiki zamandır. Geçmişten söz ederken bunların yerine was ve were gelir. Yani "be" fiilinin geçmiş hâli sadece iki kelimedir. Hangisini kullanacağın özneye bağlıdır:
Doğru biçimi seçmek için önce özneye bak. Bu tablo tüm özneleri gösterir; genç hayatından zaman ifadeleriyle (last night, yesterday) birlikte kullan:
| Özne | Biçim | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| I / he / she / it | was | She was at home yesterday. |
| you / we / they | were | We were tired after the trip. |
Olumsuz yapmak için sona not ekleriz: was not = wasn't, were not = weren't. Konuşurken kısa hâli kullanırız:
| Olumlu | Olumsuz | Türkçe |
|---|---|---|
| I was late. | I wasn't late. | Geç kalmadım. |
| They were here. | They weren't here. | Burada değillerdi. |
Soru sormak için was / were özneden önce gelir. Kısa cevaplarda da aynı biçimi kullanırız:
| Soru | Kısa cevap | Türkçe |
|---|---|---|
| Were you at school? | Yes, I was. / No, I wasn't. | Okulda mıydın? |
| Was the film good? | Yes, it was. / No, it wasn't. | Film iyi miydi? |
Geçmişte bir şeyin var olduğunu söylemek için: tekil için there was, çoğul için there were:
| Yapı | Kullanım | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| there was | tekil | There was a big crowd at the concert. |
| there were | çoğul | There were a lot of people last weekend. |
was ve were'i karıştırmak kolaydır. Bu tabloyu bir kontrol listesi gibi kullan:
| Yanlış ✗ | Doğru ✓ | Neden? |
|---|---|---|
| You was late. | You were late. | you → were. |
| They was happy. | They were happy. | they (çoğul) → were. |
| She were tired. | She was tired. | she (tekil) → was. |
| I didn't was there. | I wasn't there. | was ile did kullanılmaz. |
| There were a concert. | There was a concert. | a concert tekil → there was. |

Hi! I am Deniz and I am sixteen. Last night I was at a concert with my best friend, Aylin. It was our favourite band, so we were really excited. We weren't late; we were there an hour early.
My favourite band is called Blue Sky. Their songs are on my phone every day. Last week I was very nervous about the tickets. The tickets were online and they were fast to sell. My cousin was quick, so we were happy. My mum and dad were kind about the plan. My little sister was sad because she was too young for the concert. She was at home with my grandma.
Aylin is my best friend. We are in the same class at school. She was my partner for the whole night. Her jacket was black and her hat was red. My shoes were new and white. We were a good team. Before the concert, we were on the phone for one hour. Our plan was simple: fun, music and photos. We were ready for a great night.
In the morning I was at school, but my mind was on the concert. My mum was a little worried because the city centre was busy. My dad was very kind and he was our driver. The roads weren't empty, so the trip was slow. Aylin was quiet in the car, but I was very excited.
We were at the concert hall at six o'clock. The queue was very long, but it was fun. Many teenagers were in the queue with us. Their T-shirts were black and blue, like the band's colours. My T-shirt was blue too. The security guards were friendly and calm. The doors were big and the signs were bright. The night was cold, but our hearts were warm. We were happy and our smiles were wide.
The hall was huge and there were a lot of people. There was a big crowd near the stage, but our seats were perfect. The tickets weren't expensive, so many students from my school were there too. Our friends Can and Ela were next to us, and they were very loud.
Before the music, we were a little hungry. The popcorn was warm and the water was cold. My drink was orange and Aylin's drink was red. Our seats were close to the stage. The stage was very big and the screens were huge. The microphones were ready and the guitars were on the stage. Everyone was excited for the band.
Our teacher, Mr Kaya, was there with his son. The lights were bright and the room was warm. Some fans were in funny costumes and their faces were full of joy. There was a small shop near the door, but the drinks were expensive. The music wasn't quiet at all; it was really loud.
The first song was slow and calm. The second song was fast and loud. My favourite song was the third one. The words were easy, so we were all singers for one night. Aylin's hands were in the air. My voice was loud, but it was not a problem. The people around us were nice. Two boys near the aisle were from another school. They were friendly and their smiles were big.
The band members were kind to the fans. The singer's voice was strong and clear. The drummer was fast and the lights were like stars. Some fans were with their parents, and some were with friends. A few little kids were on their dads' shoulders. Everyone was part of one big family for two hours. The night was short, but it was perfect.
The band was amazing. The singers were great and the songs were loud and fun. After the concert we were tired but very happy. It was the best night of the month.
After the last song, the lights were low. The crowd was quiet for a moment, and then everyone was loud again. My hands were tired from clapping. Aylin's phone was full, like mine. We were happy but a little sleepy. Outside, the air was cool and fresh. My dad's car was near the door. He was there on time, and he was not angry. It was a night for my diary. The trip home was quiet and calm.
On the way home the streets were quiet and the sky was dark. My phone was full of photos and short videos. My parents weren't asleep; they were happy to see my big smile. It was a long day, but it wasn't boring. Where were you last weekend? Was your weekend fun too?
