Grammar: Arrangements & Invitations (Would you like...? / Let's... / Can we...? / I am meeting...)

Read the rules, study the examples, then do the exercises.

  • "Would you like to join the meeting?"Toplantıya katılmak ister misin? (nazik davet)
  • "Let's meet at ten."Hadi onda buluşalım. (öneri)
  • "Can we meet tomorrow?"Yarın buluşabilir miyiz? (rica / ayarlama)
  • "I am meeting the client at three."Müşteriyle saat üçte görüşüyorum. (ayarlanmış gelecek plan)

Kısacası: Would you like...? davet eder, Let's... öneri sunar, Can we...? rica ile ayarlar, present continuous ise kesinleşmiş gelecek planını anlatır.

1. Davet ve Teklif: Would you like...? (Invitations & Offers)

Birini bir şeye davet etmenin ya da bir şey teklif etmenin en nazik yolu Would you like...? kalıbıdır. İki şekilde kullanılır:

YapıNe için?ÖrnekTürkçesi
Would you like to + yalın fiilbir eyleme davetWould you like to join the meeting?Toplantıya katılmak ister misin?
Would you like + isimbir şey ikram/teklifWould you like some coffee?Biraz kahve ister misin?

Cevap vermek çok kolaydır: kabul için "Yes, please." ya da "I'd love to."; ret için "No, thank you."

Nazik olmanın anahtarı
  • Would you like...? ile Do you want...? aynı anlama gelir, ama "Would you like" daha nazik ve iş ortamına uygundur.
  • "to" unutma: "Would you like to come?" ✓ — "Would you like come?"
  • Kendini davet ederken Would you like me to...? de: "Would you like me to book the room?" (Odayı benim ayırtmamı ister misin?)

2. Öneri: Let's... (Suggestions)

Let's, "Let us"un kısasıdır ve "hadi ... yapalım" demektir. Birlikte bir şey yapmayı önerirken kullanılır. Kural tek satırdır: Let's + YALIN fiil.

ÖneriTürkçesi
Let's meet at ten.Hadi onda buluşalım.
Let's book a meeting room.Bir toplantı odası ayırtalım.
Let's have lunch together.Birlikte öğle yemeği yiyelim.
Let's confirm the time by email.Saati e-posta ile teyit edelim.
Dikkat
  • Let's'ten sonra fiil yalın kalır: "Let's meet" ✓ — "Let's to meet / Let's meeting"
  • Olumsuz öneri: Let's not..."Let's not start late." (Geç başlamayalım.)
  • Let's her zaman bizi (konuşan + dinleyen) içerir. Sadece karşıdakine öneriyorsan Why don't you...? daha uygundur.

3. Rica ve Ayarlama: Can we...? (Requests & Arranging)

Bir toplantıyı ayarlamak, izin istemek veya nazikçe rica etmek için Can we...? ve Can you...? kullanılır. Yapı basittir: Can + özne + YALIN fiil?

SoruNe için?Türkçesi
Can we meet at three?saat önerme/ayarlamaÜçte buluşabilir miyiz?
Can we use Room B?izin istemeB Odasını kullanabilir miyiz?
Can you confirm the time?rica etmeSaati teyit edebilir misin?
Can we reschedule to Friday?erteleme isteğiCuma'ya erteleyebilir miyiz?
Kısa cevaplar
  • Kabul: "Yes, sure." · "Of course." · "Yes, we can."
  • Ret/özür: "Sorry, I'm busy at three." · "I'm afraid we can't."
  • Daha resmi rica için Could we...? de kullanılır: "Could we meet tomorrow?" — anlam aynı, ton daha kibar.

4. Gelecek Planı: I am meeting... (Present Continuous for Future)

Ayarlanmış, kesinleşmiş bir gelecek planını anlatmak için present continuous (am/is/are + fiil-ing) kullanılır. Cümlede genellikle bir gelecek zaman ifadesi vardır (at three, tomorrow, next week):

CümleTürkçesi
I am meeting the client at three.Müşteriyle saat üçte görüşüyorum.
We are having lunch on Thursday.Perşembe öğle yemeği yiyoruz.
She is visiting the Ankara office tomorrow.Yarın Ankara ofisini ziyaret ediyor.
They are flying to London next week.Gelecek hafta Londra'ya uçuyorlar.
"Şimdi" mi, "gelecek plan" mı?
  • Aynı yapı iki iş görür; farkı zaman ifadesi belirler: "I am meeting him now." (şu an) — "I am meeting him at three." (gelecek plan).
  • Soru: "What are you doing tomorrow?" — Cevap: "I'm seeing a customer."

5. Hangisini Seçmeliyim? (Which One?)

Birini davet etmek / teklif sunmakWould you like to...?Would you like to join us?
Birlikte bir şey önermek (biz)Let's...Let's meet at ten.
Nazikçe ayarlamak / izin / ricaCan we...? / Can you...?Can we meet on Friday?
Ayarlanmış gelecek planı anlatmakam/is/are + fiil-ingI am meeting the client at three.
Pratik test
  • Karşındakine bir şey sunuyor/davet ediyorsan → Would you like...?
  • "Hadi biz..." diyorsan → Let's...
  • İzin/uygunluk soruyorsan → Can we...?
  • Zaten kararlaştırılmış bir planı söylüyorsan → present continuous (I'm meeting...).

Would you like come to lunch?Would you like to come to lunch?"Would you like" + to + yalın fiil.
Let's to meet at ten.Let's meet at ten.Let's'ten sonra fiil yalın kalır, "to" gelmez.
Let's meeting tomorrow.Let's meet tomorrow.Let's + yalın fiil; -ing almaz.
Can we to use Room B?Can we use Room B?Can'den sonra da fiil yalın kalır.
I meet the client at three tomorrow.I am meeting the client at three.Ayarlanmış gelecek plan → present continuous.
Do you like to join the meeting?Would you like to join the meeting?Davet için "Would you like...?" daha doğrudur.
Are you like some coffee?Would you like some coffee?Teklif kalıbı "Would you like" + isim.

7. Uygulama: Toplantı Ayarlama (Model Dialogue)

Şimdi her şeyi bir arada görelim. Aşağıdaki diyalog Would you like...?, Let's..., Can we...? ve gelecek için present continuous yapılarını birlikte kullanıyor — koyu yazılan yerlere dikkat ederek iki kez oku; ikinci okumada Türkçesini kapatmayı dene:

  • — Hi Deniz! Are you free this afternoon? I'd like to talk about the new project.Selam Deniz! Bu öğleden sonra müsait misin? Yeni proje hakkında konuşmak istiyorum.
  • — Hi Selin! I'm sorry, I am meeting a client at two. Can we meet tomorrow?Selam Selin! Kusura bakma, ikide bir müşteriyle görüşüyorum. Yarın buluşabilir miyiz?
  • — Of course. Would you like to meet in the morning?Tabii. Sabah buluşmak ister misin?
  • — Yes, let's meet at ten. Can we use Room B?Evet, onda buluşalım. B Odasını kullanabilir miyiz?
  • — Perfect. I am booking it now. Would you like some coffee before we start?Harika. Şimdi ayırtıyorum. Başlamadan önce kahve ister misin?
  • — Yes, please! And can we invite Elif? She is working on the design.Evet, lütfen! Elif'i de davet edebilir miyiz? Tasarım üzerinde çalışıyor.
  • — Good idea. I am calling her this afternoon. Let's confirm by email tonight.İyi fikir. Bu öğleden sonra onu arıyorum. Bu akşam e-posta ile teyit edelim.
  • — Great. See you at ten!Süper. Onda görüşürüz!
Kendini test et
  • Diyalogda kaç tane "Can we...?" sorusu var? (Cevap: 3)
  • "I am meeting", "I am booking", "I am calling" — bunlar şimdi mi, gelecek plan mı? (İpucu: zaman ifadelerine bak.)
  • Selin neden "Would you like to meet" diyor da "Do you want meet" demiyor? (Bölüm 1'deki kurala bak.)

Plan Yapmaya Hazırsın (What's Next?)

Would you like...? nazik davet eder, Let's... öneri sunar, Can we...? rica ile ayarlar, present continuous ise kararlaştırılmış planlarını canlı tutar.

Planning the Week

It is Monday morning at Baytek. Selin is planning a busy week, so she is arranging meetings and appointments with her team and clients.

Selin likes Monday mornings. She has a cup of coffee on her desk. Her computer is on, and her calendar is open on the screen. The calendar is her best friend at work. It shows all the days of the week. Some days are full, and some days are free. Today, Selin wants to plan every day. She wants a clear and simple week. 'First, I make a list,' she thinks. 'Then I arrange the meetings, one by one.' She takes a pen and writes some notes. A good plan is a happy week.

Selin is a manager at Baytek. Baytek is a small technology company in Istanbul. Selin works with a nice team. Mark works with her, and Elif works with her too. They are good colleagues and good friends. Every week, the team has meetings. In the meetings, they talk about their work and their new projects. This week, they have an important project. It is the London project, and Selin needs to talk about it with Mark today.

Selin knows one important thing: a good manager is always polite. She does not say 'Come to my office now.' That is not nice. She says 'Would you like to meet this morning?' or 'Can we meet at eleven?' These questions are kind and easy. When she has an idea, she says 'Let's meet in Room B' or 'Let's have lunch together.' Her colleagues like this. They are happy to say 'Yes, of course!' A kind question always gets a kind answer.

First, Selin sends a message to Mark: 'Would you like to meet this morning? We need to talk about the London project.' Mark is busy at nine, but he is free at eleven. 'Can we meet at eleven?' he asks. 'Perfect,' Selin says. 'Let's meet in Room B.'

Selin is happy with the plan. She writes it on her calendar: '11:00 — Mark — Room B.' Room B is a nice room. It has a big table and a large screen. It is quiet and clean. Selin likes Room B for important meetings. Now she is booking the room for eleven o'clock. She clicks on the computer, and the room is ready. 'Good,' she says. 'Mark and I can talk about London at eleven.'

At half past ten, Selin gets a coffee for the meeting. She also gets a coffee for Mark, because Mark likes coffee with milk. At eleven o'clock, Mark comes to Room B. 'Good morning, Selin,' he says. 'Thank you for the coffee!' They sit at the table and open their computers. They talk about the London project for one hour. It is a good meeting, and they have many new ideas.

In the afternoon, Selin is meeting a new client, Mr. Kaya, at three o'clock. It is an important meeting, so she is preparing the room now. She is also booking lunch for the team on Thursday.

Mr. Kaya is a new client, and Selin wants a very good meeting. She is cleaning the table and checking the screen. She is putting some water and some pens on the table. 'Everything is ready,' she says. Selin is a little nervous, but she is also happy. A new client is good news for Baytek. She wants to invite Mr. Kaya to work with the team. At three o'clock, she is meeting him at the front door.

Selin is also thinking about food. On Thursday, the team is having a special lunch. It is a 'thank you' lunch for their hard work. Selin is booking a table at a restaurant near the office. The restaurant is small, and the food is very good. 'Let's have lunch together on Thursday,' she writes to the team. 'The lunch is at one o'clock.' Everybody is happy, because a team lunch is always a good idea.

Elif comes to Selin's desk. 'Are you free on Wednesday?' she asks. 'I'm sorry, I'm not available on Wednesday morning because I'm visiting the Ankara office,' Selin says. 'But let's have coffee in the afternoon.'

Elif smiles. 'Coffee in the afternoon is perfect,' she says. 'Can we meet at four o'clock?' 'Yes, of course,' Selin says. 'Let's meet in the café near the office.' Elif is working on the design for the London project, and she wants to show her new ideas to Selin. Selin is visiting the Ankara office in the morning, but she is coming back at lunch time. Wednesday afternoon is free, so coffee with Elif is a good plan.

On Wednesday, Selin is flying to Ankara early in the morning. She is visiting the Ankara office for one short meeting. The people in Ankara are nice, and the meeting is quick. Then she is flying back to Istanbul. It is a long day, but it is important. Selin does not want to cancel this trip. Some meetings you can postpone, but this one you cannot. She is a busy manager, and she likes her busy week.

On Friday, the team is celebrating a new contract. Selin is inviting everyone. 'Would you like to join us for dinner?' she asks Mark. 'Of course!' he says. 'Can we invite the London team too?'

The new contract is very big news. Baytek is working with a new company, and everybody is happy. Selin wants a special dinner for the team. She is booking a table at a nice restaurant for Friday evening. 'The dinner is at eight o'clock,' she says. 'Let's celebrate together!' She is inviting all her colleagues — Mark, Elif, and the other people in the office. A good dinner is a good 'thank you' for a hard week.

'Good idea,' says Selin. 'I'm calling them this afternoon. Let's confirm everything by Friday.' It is only Monday, but Selin's week is already full of plans.

Now Selin looks at her calendar again. Monday is the meeting with Mark. Wednesday is the trip to Ankara and coffee with Elif. Thursday is the team lunch. Friday is the client contract and the big dinner. Every day has a plan. Selin is smiling. Her week is busy, but she is happy. 'I love a good plan,' she says. 'A clear week is an easy week, and a happy team is the best team.' She closes her computer and drinks the last of her coffee. It is a great start to a great week.

Nazik Bir Davet E-postası Nasıl Kurulur? (Writing an Invitation)

Bir davet e-postası, bu ünitenin dört yapısını bir araya getirir: davet edersin (Would you like...?), öneri sunarsın (Let's...), rica edersin (Can we...?) ve planlarını anlatırsın (present continuous). İşte hangi yapı ne işe yarar:
