Grammar: Time & Schedules (o'clock / half past · always, usually, never)

Read the rules, study the examples, then do the exercises.

  • "It's nine o'clock."Saat dokuz. (tam saat)
  • "The meeting starts at half past ten."Toplantı on buçukta başlar. (yarım saat)
  • "I usually start work at nine."Genelde işe dokuzda başlarım. (rutin + sıklık)
  • "She always checks her emails in the morning."Sabahları hep e-postalarını kontrol eder. (sıklık zarfı)
  • "We never work on Sunday."Pazar günü asla çalışmayız.

1. Saati Söyleme: o'clock & half past (Telling the Time)

Saati sormak için What time is it? ya da What's the time? dersin. Cevap her zaman It's ... ile başlar. En basit iki kalıp:

SaatİngilizceNasıl?
9:00It's nine o'clock.Tam saat: sayı + o'clock.
9:30It's half past nine.Buçuk: half past + saat.
10:00It's ten o'clock.Tam saat.
10:30It's half past ten.On buçuk.

  • "The meeting starts at ten o'clock."Toplantı saat onda başlar.
  • "I have lunch at half past twelve."Öğle yemeğini on iki buçukta yerim.
  • "We finish work at six o'clock."İşi saat altıda bitiririz.
Ek kalıplar (çeyrek saatler)
  • quarter past = çeyrek geçe: 9:15 → "quarter past nine".
  • quarter to = çeyrek kala: 8:45 → "quarter to nine".
  • Zaman zarfları: at + saat, ama in the morning / afternoon / evening, at night.

2. Present Simple: Günlük Rutin (Everyday Routines)

Her gün tekrar eden işleri — programını, alışkanlıklarını — Present Simple ile anlatırsın. Kural basit: I / you / we / they ile fiil yalın kalır; he / she / it ile fiile -s eklenir:

ÖzneFiilÖrnekTürkçesi
I / We / TheystartI start work at nine.İşe dokuzda başlarım.
He / ShestartsShe starts work at eight.İşe sekizde başlar.
He / ShefinishesHe finishes at six.Altıda bitirir.
He / ShehasShe has lunch at half past twelve.Öğle yemeğini on iki buçukta yer.

Olumsuz ve soru için do / does yardımcısı gelir, fiil yine yalın kalır:

OlumsuzSoru
I don't work on Sunday.Do you start at nine?
She doesn't start at eight.Does she work on Friday?
En kritik kural
  • he/she/it ile fiil -s alır: "She starts at nine." ✓ — "She start" ✗
  • does'lu soru/olumsuzda -s YOK: "Does she starts?" ✗ → "Does she start?"
  • -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o ile bitenlerde -es: finish → finishes, go → goes, watch → watches.

3. Sıklık Zarfları (Adverbs of Frequency)

alwaysher zaman (%100)I always check my emails first.
usuallygenellikleShe usually arrives at nine.
oftensık sıkWe often have a meeting on Monday.
sometimesbazenHe sometimes works late.
neverasla (%0)They never work on Sunday.

Yeri çok önemlidir. Kural: normal fiilden ÖNCE, ama be (am/is/are) fiilinden SONRA:

  • "I usually start work at nine."zarf + normal fiil (start).
  • "The meeting is usually at ten."be (is) + zarf.
  • "She never comes late."zarf + normal fiil (comes).
Dikkat
  • "I start usually at nine." ✗ → "I usually start at nine." ✓ — zarf fiilden önce.
  • "She is never late" ✓ ama "She never is late" ✗ — be'den sonra gelir.
  • never zaten olumsuzdur; yanına ayrıca "don't" gelmez: "I don't never..."

4. Saat ve Rutin Soruları (Asking About Schedules)

Programla ilgili en sık üç soru kalıbı: What time...? (saat kaçta), When...? (ne zaman), How often...? (ne sıklıkta). Hepsi Present Simple'ın soru düzenini kullanır:

SoruÖrnek cevap
What time do you start work?At nine o'clock.
When does the meeting begin? At half past ten.
How often do you travel for work?Sometimes. About once a month.
Do you have lunch at half past twelve?Yes, I do. / No, I don't.
Dikkat
  • Kısa cevapta ana fiil tekrar edilmez: "Do you start at nine?""Yes, I do."
  • he/she sorusunda does gelir ve fiil yalın kalır: "When does she arrive?"
  • Sık zaman ifadeleri: every day (her gün), on Monday (pazartesi), in the morning (sabahları), once a week (haftada bir).

She start at nine. She starts at nine.he/she ile fiil -s alır.
Does she starts at eight?Does she start at eight?does'lu soruda fiil yalın kalır.
The meeting is in ten o'clock. The meeting is at ten o'clock.Saatlerde "at" kullanılır, "in" değil.
It's nine and half.It's half past nine.Buçuk = half past + saat.
I start usually at nine.I usually start at nine.Sıklık zarfı normal fiilden önce gelir.
She is never late? No, she comes always on time. She always comes on time.Zarf fiilden önce: always comes.
I don't never work on Sunday.I never work on Sunday.never zaten olumsuzdur; don't gelmez.

6. Uygulama: Bir İş Günü (Model Dialogue)

Şimdi her şeyi bir arada görelim. Aşağıdaki diyalog saatleri, Present Simple rutinini ve sıklık zarflarını birlikte kullanıyor — koyu yazılan yerlere dikkat ederek iki kez oku; ikinci okumada Türkçesini kapatmayı dene:

  • — Hi Deniz! What time do you usually start work?Selam Deniz! Genelde işe saat kaçta başlarsın?
  • — I usually start at nine o'clock, but on Mondays I start at half past eight.Genelde dokuzda başlarım, ama pazartesileri sekiz buçukta başlarım.
  • Do you have a meeting every day?Her gün toplantın olur mu?
  • — No, I don't. We often have a team meeting on Monday at ten.Hayır. Genelde pazartesi onda ekip toplantımız olur.
  • — And when do you have lunch?Peki öğle yemeğini ne zaman yersin?
  • At half past twelve. I always take a short break with my team.On iki buçukta. Hep ekibimle kısa bir mola veririm.
  • How often do you work late?Ne sıklıkla geç saate kadar çalışırsın?
  • Sometimes, before a deadline. But I never work on Sunday.Bazen, teslim tarihinden önce. Ama pazar günü asla çalışmam.
  • What time do you finish?Saat kaçta bitirirsin?
  • — I usually finish at six o'clock and I go home by bus.Genelde altıda bitiririm ve eve otobüsle giderim.
Kendini test et
  • Diyalogda kaç tane sıklık zarfı var? (Cevap: 4 — usually, often, always, never; "sometimes" ile 5.)
  • "half past twelve" saat kaç? (Cevap: 12:30)
  • Deniz neden "I never work on Sunday" diyor da "I don't never work" demiyor? (Bölüm 3'teki kurala bak.)

Bu Üniteyi Nasıl Pekiştirirsin? (What's Next?)

Pekiştirmek için: her sabah kendi gününü sesli anlat — "I usually get up at seven. I start work at nine. We often have a meeting at ten..." Bir hafta sonra bu kalıplar otomatikleşir.

Selin'in günü: kalkıştan eve dönüşe, saatlerle bir zaman çizelgesi.
Selin's Working Day

Hello! My name is Selin. I am thirty years old. I live in Istanbul, and I love my city. My home is a small flat near the sea. In the morning, I look out of the window, and I see the water and the ships. It is very nice. This is my normal day. My day is busy, but I am happy. Every day has a plan, and I like plans. Now I want to tell you about my working day.

Selin works at Baytek, a software company in Istanbul. She has a busy schedule, but she likes her routine. Every morning, she gets up at half past six and has a big breakfast. She usually leaves home at half past seven and takes the metro to the office. For breakfast, she has bread, cheese, eggs, olives and tea. Tea is her favourite drink in the morning. She drinks two cups. She reads the news on her phone, too. Then she puts on her coat and shoes, and she says goodbye to her cat, Pamuk.

The metro station is near her home. The metro is fast and easy, and it is not expensive. On the metro, Selin listens to music or reads a book. She often sees the same people every day. The trip is short. It is only twenty minutes. She likes this quiet time before work. When the metro stops, she walks to her office. The office is a big grey building with many windows.

Selin always arrives at work at half past eight. First, she checks her emails and makes a plan for the day. Her team starts work at nine o'clock. 'I am never late,' she says. 'For me, it is important to be on time.' Her office is big and bright. She has a small desk near the window. On her desk, there is a computer, a lamp, a cup and a photo of her family. She likes her desk. It is quiet and clean. She always makes a cup of coffee before nine o'clock.

Selin is a designer. She makes web pages and logos for the company. She likes bright colours and simple ideas. Every day, she works on a new project. Sometimes the work is hard, but she never gives up. 'I love my job,' she says. 'It is difficult, but it is fun. I learn something new every day.' She is good at her job, and her boss is happy with her work.

Selin uses many things in her work. She uses a computer, a pen and a big notebook. She writes her ideas in the notebook every day. She also uses a small tablet for her drawings. In the morning, she is fresh, so she does the hard work first. In the afternoon, she does the easy work. This is a good plan for her, and it saves time.

The team often has a short meeting at ten o'clock. They talk about their projects, and Selin sometimes shows her new designs to the manager, Mr. Demir. He usually gives her good advice. Selin has good colleagues at Baytek. Her friend Ayşe sits next to her. Ayşe is a designer, too. They often work together and help each other. There is another friend, Can. He writes computer code. He is always kind and funny. The team is like a small family.

Baytek is not a very big company. About forty people work there. The building has four floors, and Selin works on the third floor. There is a small garden behind the building. On warm days, some people eat lunch in the garden. Selin likes the garden very much, because it is green and quiet. Sometimes she sits there and drinks her coffee in the sun.

At half past twelve, everyone has lunch. Selin and her colleagues eat together in the kitchen. In the afternoon, they take a coffee break at half past two. For lunch, Selin often has soup, rice, chicken and salad. Sometimes she has a simple sandwich. She drinks water or ayran with her food. Lunch is her favourite time in the day, because she talks and laughs with her friends. After lunch, she is happy and ready for more work.

In the afternoon, Selin is very busy. She answers emails and makes new designs. At four o'clock, she often has a video call. She talks with people from other cities on her computer. Sometimes the call is long, but it is important. Time goes very fast in the afternoon. At five o'clock, Selin has a small snack. She eats a biscuit and drinks more tea. Then she finishes her last work of the day.

Selin finishes work at six o'clock, but on busy days she stays until seven. She never works at the weekend, because Sunday is for her family. 'We always have dinner together,' she says. In the evening, Selin takes the metro home. At home, she cooks a simple dinner and watches TV. She plays with her cat, Pamuk. Before bed, she reads a book for thirty minutes. She usually goes to sleep at eleven o'clock. Then a new day starts again.

Selin's favourite day at work is Friday. On Friday, the team finishes early, at five o'clock. Sometimes they go out together after work. They eat pizza and talk about the week. 'Friday is a happy day,' Selin says. After Friday, the weekend starts, and everybody is glad.

The weekend is different, and Selin loves it. On Saturday, she sleeps late and rests. She does not use her alarm clock. In the afternoon, she often goes to the park with her friends. They walk, talk and drink coffee. On Sunday, she stays at home with her family. They cook a big meal and eat together. It is a slow and happy day.

Selin has hobbies, too. After work, she sometimes goes to the gym. On other days, she studies English at home for one hour. She wants to speak English very well. She watches English films with subtitles. 'English is important for my job,' she says. 'I practise a little every day.' She also likes to draw and to take photos of her city by the sea.

Selin is happy with her schedule. 'A good routine helps me. I know my day, so I am never stressed. Time is my best friend at work!' She smiles and looks at the clock. It is nine o'clock, and a new project is on her screen. 'Now it is time to work,' she says. 'I am ready!'

Practice Lab (Alıştırma Laboratuvarı)

Bu bölüm bir pekiştirmedir: 18 sorunun ağırlığı bu ünitenin konusunda — saati söyleme (o'clock / half past), Present Simple ile rutin ve sıklık zarfları — ama aralara önceki ünitelerden de sorular serpiştirildi: şimdiki zaman, zamirler, can, there is/are, some/any ve bağlaçlar. (18 questions: Time & Schedules + a mix from earlier A1 units.) Her soru anında değerlendirilir; yanlış cevapta kısa Türkçe açıklama görürsün.

İpucu
  • Saat gör (at nine, half past ten) → Present Simple + "at" düşün.
  • "usually / every day / on Monday" gör → geniş zaman (Present Simple). "now / Look!" gör → şimdiki zaman.
  • Sıklık zarfının yeri: normal fiilden önce, be'den sonra.

Writing: An Email About Your Working Day

Write and submit your email; your teacher will review it. (E-postanı yaz ve gönder; öğretmenin değerlendirecek.)

Günlük Rutini Anlatan Bir Yazı Nasıl Kurulur? (Writing About a Routine)

  • Saat ifadeleri günü sıralar: at half past six... at nine o'clock... at half past twelve... at six o'clock...
  • Sıklık zarfları anlatıyı zenginleştirir: I always..., I usually..., I sometimes..., I never... — fiilin hemen önüne koy.
