İşte some/any/no bu "yuvarlak" dünyanın dilbilgisidir.
Türkçedeki karşılığı
İyi haber: Türkçede bu mantık zaten var. some için "biraz" (sayılamayanlarda) ya da "birkaç" (sayılabilenlerde); any için soru/olumsuzdaki "hiç" veya "herhangi bir"; no için "hiç ... yok". Yani kavram yabancı değil. Zorluk kavramda değil, hangi kelimenin nerede kullanılacağındadır.
Neden zorlanılır?
Türkçe düşünen öğrenci için üç ana tuzak vardır. Birincisi, "hiç" kelimesini hem olumlu hem olumsuzda aynı sanıp some ile any'yi karıştırmak. İkincisi, Türkçedeki çifte olumsuzluğu ("hiç kimse gelmedi") İngilizceye taşıyıp nobody didn't come gibi hatalı cümleler kurmak; standart İngilizce olumsuzluğu tek bir yerde taşır. Üçüncüsü ise teklif/rica istisnasını unutup Would you like any tea? demektir; doğrusu some'dur. Bu bölüm bu üç tuzağı tek tek çözecek.
In English, when we don't want to state or don't know the exact number of something, we use small words that mark an "indefinite quantity". some, any and no exist precisely for this. To the question "How many?" or "How much?" they answer not with a precise figure but with rounded expressions like "a little", "a few", "none", "any". These are the most frequently used members of the quantifiers family.
Why do these words exist? Because most of everyday language does not require exact numbers. When we say "There's some milk in the fridge" we don't state the exact millilitres; when we say "I have no money" we want to stress the zero; when we say "You can take any bus" it doesn't matter which one. This is where some/any/no are the grammar of that "rounded" world.
The Turkish equivalent
The good news: this logic already exists in Turkish. For some, "biraz" (with uncountables) or "birkaç" (with countables); for any, "hiç" or "herhangi bir" in questions/negatives; for no, "hiç ... yok". So the concept is not foreign. The difficulty is not in the concept but in which word is used where.
Why is it difficult?
There are three main traps for a student thinking in Turkish. First, treating the word "hiç" as the same in both affirmative and negative and thus confusing some with any. Second, carrying the Turkish double negative ("hiç kimse gelmedi") into English and building faulty sentences like nobody didn't come; standard English carries negation in a single place. Third, forgetting the offer/request exception and saying Would you like any tea?; the correct form is some. This section will tackle these three traps one by one.
- some = biraz / birkaç → genellikle olumlu cümlelerde: I have some money.
- any = hiç / herhangi bir → genellikle olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde: I don't have any money. / Do you have any money?
- no = hiç ... yok → fiili olumlu bırakır, anlamı olumsuzlaştırır: I have no money. (= I don't have any money.)
- Üçü de hem sayılamayan isimlerle (water, time) hem çoğul sayılabilen isimlerle (books, friends) kullanılır.
- Tekil sayılabilen isimle bunlar KULLANILMAZ; onun için a/an vardır → bkz. Tanımlıklar (a / an / the).
- İstisna: teklif ve rica sorularında some kullanılır: Would you like some coffee? / Can I have some water?
- Olumlu cümlede any = "herhangi biri, fark etmez": Take any seat.
- Standart İngilizcede olumsuzluk TEK yerde taşınır: I don't have any ✓ ama I don't have no ✗ (yaygın hata).
- Bileşikleri de aynı kurala uyar: some→something/someone/somewhere, any→anything/anyone/anywhere, no→nothing/nobody/nowhere.
- not any = no: aynı anlam, farklı vurgu. no genellikle daha kesin ve emphatiktir.
- some = a little / a few → usually in affirmative sentences: I have some money.
- any = any / none → usually in negative and question sentences: I don't have any money. / Do you have any money?
- no = there is/are no ... → keeps the verb positive, makes the meaning negative: I have no money. (= I don't have any money.)
- All three are used both with uncountable nouns (water, time) and with plural countable nouns (books, friends).
- These are NOT used with a singular countable noun; a/an exists for that → see Articles (a / an / the).
- Exception: some is used in offer and request questions: Would you like some coffee? / Can I have some water?
- In an affirmative sentence any = "any one, it doesn't matter": Take any seat.
- In standard English, negation is carried in ONE place: I don't have any ✓ but I don't have no ✗ (a common mistake).
- Their compounds follow the same rule: some→something/someone/somewhere, any→anything/anyone/anywhere, no→nothing/nobody/nowhere.
- not any = no: same meaning, different emphasis. no is usually more definite and emphatic.
some/any/no doğrudan ismin önüne gelir. Kalıp basittir: belirleyici + (sıfat) + isim. Cümlenin olumlu, olumsuz ya da soru olması, hangi belirleyiciyi seçeceğini belirler. Aşağıda üç temel biçimi ayrı ayrı görelim.
Olumlu cümle → some
Formül: özne + fiil + some + isim. Bir şeyin var olduğunu, belirsiz ama pozitif bir miktarda olduğunu söyler.
Olumsuz cümle → not any
Formül: özne + don't/doesn't + fiil + any + isim. Dikkat: olumsuzluğu taşıyan not'tur; any yalnızca miktarı "sıfıra" çeker. Bu yüzden hem not hem no'yu aynı anda kullanmak yanlıştır.
Soru cümlesi → any
Formül: Do/Does/Is/Are + özne + ... + any + isim?. Nötr, bilgi soran sorularda any kullanılır. (Teklif/ricada some kullanıldığını 8. ve 10. bölümlerde ayrıntılı göreceğiz.)
no ile alternatif olumsuzluk
Formül: özne + fiil (olumlu) + no + isim. Fiil olumlu kalır ama anlam olumsuzdur. I have no money ile I don't have any money aynı anlamı taşır; no biçimi çoğu zaman daha vurgulu ve kesindir.
| Cümle tipi | Belirleyici | Örnek | Kısa cevap / not |
|---|---|---|---|
| Olumlu | some | I have some. | Var, belirsiz miktar. |
| Olumsuz | any (not ile) | I don't have any. | Yok; olumsuzluk 'not'ta. |
| Olumsuz (alt.) | no | I have no... | Yok; fiil olumlu, anlam olumsuz, daha vurgulu. |
| Soru (nötr) | any | Do you have any? | Yes, I do. / No, I don't. |
| Teklif / rica | some | Would you like some? | Yes, please. / No, thanks. |
some/any/no come directly before the noun. The pattern is simple: determiner + (adjective) + noun. Whether the sentence is affirmative, negative or a question determines which determiner you choose. Below, let's look at the three basic forms one by one.
Affirmative sentence → some
Formula: subject + verb + some + noun. It says that something exists, in an unspecified but positive quantity.
Negative sentence → not any
Formula: subject + don't/doesn't + verb + any + noun. Note: it is not that carries the negation; any only pulls the quantity to "zero". That is why using both not and no at the same time is wrong.
Question sentence → any
Formula: Do/Does/Is/Are + subject + ... + any + noun?. any is used in neutral, information-seeking questions. (We will see in detail in sections 8 and 10 that some is used in offers/requests.)
Alternative negation with no
Formula: subject + verb (positive) + no + noun. The verb stays positive but the meaning is negative. I have no money and I don't have any money carry the same meaning; the no form is often more emphatic and definite.
| Sentence type | Determiner | Example | Short answer / note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Affirmative | some | I have some. | There is some, unspecified quantity. |
| Negative | any (with not) | I don't have any. | There isn't; the negation is in 'not'. |
| Negative (alt.) | no | I have no... | There isn't; verb positive, meaning negative, more emphatic. |
| Question (neutral) | any | Do you have any? | Yes, I do. / No, I don't. |
| Offer / request | some | Would you like some? | Yes, please. / No, thanks. |
1) Olumlu cümlede belirsiz miktar (some)
En yaygın kullanım. Bir şeyin var olduğunu, ama miktarını tam vermeye gerek olmadığını belirtir. Sayılamayanla "biraz", çoğul sayılabilenle "birkaç" diye çevrilir.
2) Olumsuz cümlede sıfır miktar (not any / no)
Bir şeyin hiç olmadığını söyler. İki yol vardır: not ... any (nötr) ya da no (daha vurgulu). Anlam aynıdır.
3) Soruda bilgi isteme (any)
Bir şeyin var olup olmadığını nötr biçimde sorar. Cevabın evet mi hayır mı olduğu hakkında beklenti taşımaz.
4) Teklif ve rica (some — soru olsa bile)
Birine bir şey sunarken ya da bir şey isterken, soru biçiminde olmasına rağmen some kullanılır. Sebep: bu sorular gerçek bir "var mı yok mu" sorusu değil; olumlu bir cevap (evet) beklenir ve nezaket taşır.
5) Olumlu cümlede 'fark etmez' (any = herhangi biri)
any olumlu bir cümlede kullanıldığında "hiç" değil, "herhangi biri, hangisi olursa" anlamına gelir. Seçim serbestliğini vurgular. Genellikle vurguyla söylenir.
1) Indefinite quantity in an affirmative sentence (some)
The most common use. It indicates that something exists, but there's no need to state its exact quantity. It translates as "a little" with uncountables and "a few" with plural countables.
2) Zero quantity in a negative sentence (not any / no)
It says that there is none of something. There are two ways: not ... any (neutral) or no (more emphatic). The meaning is the same.
3) Asking for information in a question (any)
It neutrally asks whether something exists. It carries no expectation about whether the answer is yes or no.
4) Offer and request (some — even if it's a question)
When offering something to someone or asking for something, some is used even though it's in question form. The reason: these are not a real "is there or isn't there" question; a positive answer (yes) is expected and it carries politeness.
5) 'It doesn't matter' in an affirmative sentence (any = any one)
When any is used in an affirmative sentence, it means not "none" but "any one, whichever". It stresses freedom of choice. It is usually said with emphasis.
some/any/no seçiminde "zaman ifadesi" yoktur, ama cümlenin kutbunu (olumlu/olumsuz/soru) ve örtük olumsuzluğu ele veren sinyaller vardır. Aşağıdaki kelimeler görününce genellikle any gelir — çünkü bunlar cümleyi anlamca olumsuz yapar.
| Sinyal | Anlamı | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| not / n't | açık olumsuzluk | I don't need any help. |
| never | asla | She never causes any trouble. |
| hardly / barely | neredeyse hiç | There's hardly any milk left. |
| without | olmadan | He left without any warning. |
| rarely / seldom | nadiren | We rarely have any free time. |
| if | koşul (şüphe) | If you have any questions, ask me. |
| Do/Does/Did ...? | nötr soru | Did you buy any bread? |
In choosing some/any/no there is no "time expression", but there are signals that reveal the polarity of the sentence (affirmative/negative/question) and implicit negation. When the following words appear, any usually comes — because they make the sentence negative in meaning.
| Signal | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| not / n't | explicit negation | I don't need any help. |
| never | never | She never causes any trouble. |
| hardly / barely | almost none | There's hardly any milk left. |
| without | without | He left without any warning. |
| rarely / seldom | rarely | We rarely have any free time. |
| if | condition (doubt) | If you have any questions, ask me. |
| Do/Does/Did ...? | neutral question | Did you buy any bread? |
some vs any: bakış açısı ve beklenti
some ve any arasındaki fark yalnızca dilbilgisel değil, çoğu zaman konuşmacının beklentisiyle ilgilidir. Bir soruda some kullanmak, cevabın "evet" olmasını beklediğini ya da umduğunu gösterir; any ise gerçekten nötr, "olabilir de olmayabilir de" tavrını yansıtır.
no vs not any: vurgu farkı
İkisi de "sıfır" anlamına gelir ama no daha kesin, daha vurgulu ve genellikle daha resmidir. Cümle başında olumsuzluğu öne çıkarmak istediğinde no tercih edilir. not any ise daha nötr ve konuşma dilinde daha sık.
Vurgulu some: 'belli biri ama söylemiyorum'
some vurguyla söylendiğinde, özellikle tekil sayılabilen bir isimle, "bilmediğim/belirtmediğim biri/bir şey" anlamı katar. Bu ileri bir kullanımdır ve tonu önemlidir.
some vs any: perspective and expectation
The difference between some and any is not only grammatical; it is often about the speaker's expectation. Using some in a question shows that you expect or hope the answer will be "yes"; any reflects a genuinely neutral "it may or may not be" attitude.
no vs not any: difference in emphasis
Both mean "zero" but no is more definite, more emphatic and usually more formal. When you want to foreground the negation at the start of the sentence, no is preferred. not any is more neutral and more frequent in speech.
Stressed some: 'a certain one but I'm not saying'
When some is said with emphasis, especially with a singular countable noun, it adds the sense of "someone/something I don't know or won't specify". This is an advanced use and the tone matters.
Türkçe ile İngilizce burada büyük ölçüde örtüşür ama üç kritik noktada ayrışır. Bunları bilmek, doğrudan çeviriden doğan hataları engeller.
- Çifte olumsuzluk: Türkçe olumsuzluğu iki kez taşır ("Hiç kimse gelmedi" — hem 'hiç kimse' hem '-medi'). Standart İngilizce olumsuzluğu bir kez taşır: Nobody came (fiil olumlu) ya da Anybody didn't come DEĞİL.
- "hiç" tek kelime, İngilizce iki alan: Türkçedeki "hiç" hem olumsuz (hiç yok = any/no) hem soru (hiç var mı = any) için aynıdır; İngilizce bunu some/any ayrımıyla böler.
- Teklif/rica: Türkçe "ister misin?" sorusunda kelime değişmez; İngilizce burada beklenti nedeniyle some'a geçer.
- "herhangi bir": Türkçedeki "herhangi bir" olumlu cümlede any ile birebir örtüşür: Herhangi bir otobüse bin → Take any bus.
Turkish and English largely overlap here but diverge at three critical points. Knowing them prevents mistakes that come from direct translation.
- Double negation: Turkish carries the negation twice ("Hiç kimse gelmedi" — both 'hiç kimse' and '-medi'). Standard English carries negation once: Nobody came (verb positive), NOT Anybody didn't come.
- "hiç" is one word, English has two zones: the Turkish "hiç" is the same for both negative (hiç yok = any/no) and question (hiç var mı = any); English splits this with the some/any distinction.
- Offer/request: in the Turkish "ister misin?" question the word doesn't change; English switches to some here because of expectation.
- "herhangi bir": the Turkish "herhangi bir" matches any exactly in an affirmative sentence: Herhangi bir otobüse bin → Take any bus.
some/any/no, miktar belirleyicileri ailesinin bir parçasıdır. Aşağıdaki tablo, sık karıştırılan komşularıyla farkını netleştirir.
| Yapı | Ne zaman | Örnek | Fark |
|---|---|---|---|
| some / any | miktar belirsiz, sayılamayan + çoğul | some water, any books | Miktarı yuvarlar; kutba göre değişir. |
| much / many | 'çok' — genelde olumsuz/soru | much water, many books | 'çok' vurgusu; some değil, yoğunluk. Bkz. Miktar Belirteçleri. |
| a little / a few | 'biraz/birkaç' — az ama yeterli | a little time, a few friends | some'a yakın ama 'az miktar'ı vurgular. Bkz. Miktar Belirteçleri. |
| a / an | tekil sayılabilen, tek adet | a book, an apple | some çoğula/sayılamayana; a/an tek tekil. Bkz. Tanımlıklar (a / an / the). |
| no / not a | sıfır | no book / not a single book | no + çoğul/sayılamayan; 'not a' tekili vurgular. |
some/any/no are part of the quantifiers family. The table below clarifies the difference from their frequently confused neighbours.
| Structure | When | Example | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| some / any | quantity indefinite, uncountable + plural | some water, any books | Rounds the quantity; changes with polarity. |
| much / many | 'a lot' — usually negative/question | much water, many books | 'a lot' emphasis; not some, but intensity. See Quantifiers. |
| a little / a few | 'a little/a few' — small but enough | a little time, a few friends | close to some but stresses 'a small quantity'. See Quantifiers. |
| a / an | singular countable, a single item | a book, an apple | some for plural/uncountable; a/an for a single singular. See Articles (a / an / the). |
| no / not a | zero | no book / not a single book | no + plural/uncountable; 'not a' stresses the singular. |
"some = olumlu, any = olumsuz/soru" kuralı iyi bir başlangıç noktasıdır ama tam resmi vermez. Aşağıdaki özel durumlar kuralı inceltir.
- Teklif/rica sorularında some: Would you like some...? / Can I have some...? — olumlu cevap beklendiği için.
- Olumlu cümlede any = 'fark etmez': Take any card. / Any help is welcome. — seçim serbestliği anlamı.
- Örtük olumsuzlarda any: without, hardly, never, rarely, seldom — cümle anlamca olumsuz olduğu için: He finished without any help.
- 'if' koşulunda ikisi de olabilir: nötr/şüpheli koşulda any, olumlu varsayımda some: If you have any doubts... vs If you'd like some coffee...
- Öznede olumsuzluk = no: No buses run after midnight. (Any buses don't... ✗)
The rule "some = affirmative, any = negative/question" is a good starting point but doesn't give the full picture. The special cases below refine the rule.
- some in offer/request questions: Would you like some...? / Can I have some...? — because a positive answer is expected.
- any = 'it doesn't matter' in an affirmative sentence: Take any card. / Any help is welcome. — the freedom-of-choice sense.
- any with implicit negatives: without, hardly, never, rarely, seldom — because the sentence is negative in meaning: He finished without any help.
- both are possible in an 'if' clause: any in a neutral/doubtful condition, some in a positive assumption: If you have any doubts... vs If you'd like some coffee...
- subject negation = no: No buses run after midnight. (Any buses don't... ✗)
Akademik ve resmi yazıda some/any/no sık kullanılır ama ton daha ölçülüdür. Özellikle no ve not any, bir bulgunun yokluğunu vurgulamak için değerlidir. Resmi yazıda 'some' çoğu zaman 'certain', 'several' ya da 'a number of' ile de değiştirilebilir; 'any' ise koşul ve genelleme cümlelerinde 'fark etmez' anlamıyla güçlüdür.
- 'some encouraging results' → 'certain/several' anlamında hedge; kesin sayı vermeden olumlu bulgu.
- 'no consistent pattern' → bulgunun yokluğunu vurgulayan kesin akademik ton.
- 'hardly any responses' → hardly örtük olumsuz olduğu için any.
- 'any conclusion / any department' → olumlu cümlede any = 'herhangi, fark etmez'.
- 'no firm recommendation could be made' → 'not any' yerine 'no' ile resmi kesinlik.
- 'there were no problems' vs 'some issues' → aynı paragrafta no ve some'ın anlam zıtlığı bilinçli kullanılmış.
- 'no one should mistake' → no bileşiği (no one) özne konumunda olumsuzluk taşıyor.
some/any/no are used frequently in academic and formal writing, but the tone is more measured. Especially no and not any are valuable for stressing the absence of a finding. In formal writing 'some' can often be replaced with 'certain', 'several' or 'a number of'; 'any', meanwhile, is strong in conditional and generalizing sentences with its 'it doesn't matter' sense.
- 'some encouraging results' → a hedge in the sense of 'certain/several'; a positive finding without giving an exact number.
- 'no consistent pattern' → a definite academic tone stressing the absence of a finding.
- 'hardly any responses' → any because hardly is an implicit negative.
- 'any conclusion / any department' → any in an affirmative sentence = 'any, it doesn't matter'.
- 'no firm recommendation could be made' → formal definiteness with 'no' instead of 'not any'.
- 'there were no problems' vs 'some issues' → the meaning contrast of no and some in the same paragraph is used deliberately.
- 'no one should mistake' → the no compound (no one) carries the negation in subject position.
- 'there wasn't any milk / there were no eggs' → aynı sıfır anlamı iki farklı yolla (not any / no) verilmiş.
- 'hardly any bread' → hardly örtük olumsuzu any tetikliyor.
- 'Do we have any coffee?' → nötr soru → any.
- 'there was some in the cupboard / have some caffeine' → olumlu cümlede belirsiz miktar → some.
- 'if you'd like some' → teklif/rica çerçevesi → some.
- 'Have you got any spare change?' → nötr soru → any; cevap 'I don't have any' → olumsuz → any.
- 'there weren't any eggs' → olumsuz → not any.
- 'you almost always have something' → olumlu bağlamda some- bileşiği (something).
- 'there wasn't any milk / there were no eggs' → the same zero meaning given in two different ways (not any / no).
- 'hardly any bread' → the implicit negative hardly triggers any.
- 'Do we have any coffee?' → neutral question → any.
- 'there was some in the cupboard / have some caffeine' → indefinite quantity in an affirmative sentence → some.
- 'if you'd like some' → offer/request frame → some.
- 'Have you got any spare change?' → neutral question → any; the answer 'I don't have any' → negative → any.
- 'there weren't any eggs' → negative → not any.
- 'you almost always have something' → the some- compound in an affirmative context (something).

Aşağıdaki sorular kural ezberini değil, anlamı kavrayıp kavramadığını ölçer. Her cevaptan sonra kendi cümlenle örnekle.
- 'Would you like some tea?' cümlesinde soru olmasına rağmen neden 'any' değil 'some' kullanıldı?Çünkü bu nötr bir bilgi sorusu değil, bir tekliftir; konuşmacı olumlu (evet) cevap bekler ve nezaket gösterir. Teklif ve ricalarda some kullanılır.
- 'I have no money' ile 'I don't have any money' arasında anlam farkı var mı?Temel anlam aynıdır (sıfır para). Fark tonda: 'no' daha vurgulu ve kesindir; 'not any' daha nötr ve konuşma dilinde daha sıktır.
- 'Take any card' cümlesinde 'any' neden 'hiç' anlamına gelmiyor?Çünkü cümle olumlu. Olumlu cümlede any 'herhangi biri, fark etmez' anlamı taşır — seçim serbestliğini vurgular, yokluğu değil.
- Neden 'Nobody didn't come' yanlış da 'Nobody came' doğru?'Nobody' zaten olumsuz anlamı taşır. Standart İngilizce olumsuzluğu bir kez taşıdığı için fiil olumlu (came) kalmalı; ikinci olumsuzluk (didn't) çifte olumsuzluk hatası oluşturur.
- 'some pen' neden yanlış, 'a pen' neden doğru?some tekil sayılabilen isimle kullanılmaz; tek bir sayılabilen şey için a/an gerekir. some yalnızca çoğul (some pens) veya sayılamayan (some ink) ile gelir.
The questions below measure not rote rule-memorization but whether you grasp the meaning. After each answer, illustrate it with your own sentence.
- In the sentence 'Would you like some tea?', why is 'some' used instead of 'any', even though it's a question?Because this is not a neutral information question but an offer; the speaker expects a positive (yes) answer and shows politeness. some is used in offers and requests.
- Is there a difference in meaning between 'I have no money' and 'I don't have any money'?The basic meaning is the same (zero money). The difference is in tone: 'no' is more emphatic and definite; 'not any' is more neutral and more frequent in speech.
- In the sentence 'Take any card', why doesn't 'any' mean 'none'?Because the sentence is affirmative. In an affirmative sentence any carries the sense 'any one, it doesn't matter' — it stresses freedom of choice, not absence.
- Why is 'Nobody didn't come' wrong while 'Nobody came' is correct?'Nobody' already carries a negative meaning. Since standard English carries negation once, the verb must stay positive (came); the second negation (didn't) creates a double-negative error.
- Why is 'some pen' wrong and 'a pen' correct?some is not used with a singular countable noun; a/an is required for a single countable thing. some comes only with a plural (some pens) or an uncountable (some ink).

There's some bread in the cupboard, though it's a bit dry. We have no fruit at all, so I should buy some apples later. Do we have any coffee? Yes, there's a little. Oh, a guest is coming — I'll ask: "Would you like some tea or some coffee?" That covers some (milk, cheese, bread, apples, tea, coffee), any (eggs, coffee question) and no (no fruit).
Task: Write a short paragraph of 6-8 sentences describing your fridge and kitchen cupboard. Use some at least twice, any twice and no once. At the end, add an offer sentence to a friend (Would you like...?).
- Guiding questions: What do you have? (with some) What do you have none of? (with no / not any)
- What would you ask your flatmate? (with Do we have any...?)
- What would you offer your guest? (with Would you like some...?)
- Mix uncountable (milk, bread, cheese) and plural countable (eggs, apples) nouns.

Yaygın öğrenci kafa karışıklığı iki noktada yoğunlaşır: (1) nötr soruda some/any seçimi, (2) çifte olumsuzluk. Birincisi için 'ikram mı, bilgi mi?' testini tekrarlat. İkincisi için ana dildeki 'hiç kimse gelmedi' cümlesini tahtaya yaz, iki olumsuzu göster ve İngilizcenin birini attığını görselleştir.
Common student confusion clusters at two points: (1) the some/any choice in a neutral question, (2) the double negative. For the first, have them repeat the 'offer or information?' test. For the second, write the native-language sentence 'hiç kimse gelmedi' on the board, show the two negatives, and visualize how English drops one.
- some → olumlu cümlelerde belirsiz miktar: I have some / birkaç, biraz.
- any → olumsuz ve nötr sorularda: I don't have any / Do you have any?
- no → fiil olumlu, anlam olumsuz; not any ile eş anlamlı ama daha vurgulu: I have no money.
- İstisna 1 — teklif/rica: Would you like some...? / Can I have some...? (soru olsa da some).
- İstisna 2 — olumlu cümlede any = 'herhangi, fark etmez': Take any seat.
- Örtük olumsuzlar (never, hardly, without, rarely) → any tetikler.
- Öznede olumsuzluk her zaman no ile: No buses run at night. (Any... doesn't ✗)
- Standart İngilizce olumsuzluğu tek yerde taşır: çifte olumsuzluktan kaçın (don't ... any ✓, don't ... no ✗).
- Tekil sayılabilen için some değil a/an → bkz. Tanımlıklar (a / an / the).
- Bileşikler aynı kurala uyar: something/anything/nothing, someone/anyone/no one.
- Akılda tut: some'un evi olumlu, any'nin evi olumsuz-soru, no'nun rolü kesin sıfır.
- some → indefinite quantity in affirmative sentences: I have some / a few, a little.
- any → in negative and neutral questions: I don't have any / Do you have any?
- no → verb positive, meaning negative; synonymous with not any but more emphatic: I have no money.
- Exception 1 — offer/request: Would you like some...? / Can I have some...? (some even though it's a question).
- Exception 2 — any in an affirmative sentence = 'any, it doesn't matter': Take any seat.
- Implicit negatives (never, hardly, without, rarely) → trigger any.
- Subject negation always with no: No buses run at night. (Any... doesn't ✗)
- Standard English carries negation in one place: avoid the double negative (don't ... any ✓, don't ... no ✗).
- For a singular countable, not some but a/an → see Articles (a / an / the).
- The compounds follow the same rule: something/anything/nothing, someone/anyone/no one.
- Keep in mind: some's house is affirmative, any's house is negative-question, no's role is definite zero.
