Reading (2 metin · 20 soru)

Suggested time: 25 minutes. (Önerilen süre: 25 dakika.) Text 1 küçük bir mucidin geçmiş mücadelesini, Text 2 bir okul bahçesi projesinin geleceğini anlatır. (Text 1 tells a young inventor's past struggle; Text 2 is about the future of a school garden project.)

Text 1 · The Youngest Inventor

For most of her first year at school, Lena was told that children were far too young to invent anything useful — a claim she never really believed. Having watched her grandfather repair old clocks, she had grown used to taking things apart to see how they worked. When her teacher refused to let her enter the school science fair because she was "only nine", she was left at home to tinker with a box of broken toys.

It was precisely this free time that led to her best idea. While fixing a small toy car by hand, Lena noticed that it rolled much further whenever she added a tiny rubber band. Had the car sped up only once, she might have forgotten it; but it happened every single time she tried. The rubber band, she realised, was storing energy and pushing the car along.

Her idea was laughed at as "child's play" by one older pupil. Yet within a year the little rubber-band car she had designed won first prize at the regional fair, and it is now shown to every new class as an example. Lena rarely boasts about the prize she was once refused. "If I had been allowed into that first fair," she once said, "I might never have sat still long enough to notice the rubber band."

A · True / False (Questions 1-5 — Text 1)

Are these sentences true or false? (Bu cümleler doğru mu, yanlış mı?) Dikkat: bazı cümleler mantıklı görünür ama metinde söylenmez.

B · Multiple Choice (Questions 6-10 — Text 1)

Choose the correct answer. (Doğru cevabı seç.)

Text 2 · Bringing the Garden Back to Life

An exciting project is under way at Green Hill School, where a corner of the playground is being turned into a wildlife garden. For many years the ground had been used only as a car park, which, according to the science teacher, had left almost no space for plants or animals. The pupils have now decided that nature, rather than concrete, should be given a chance.

Under the plan, which is known as "rewilding", creatures that had vanished from the schoolyard long ago are slowly being welcomed back. Bees, whose visits help the flowers to grow, have already returned, and it is hoped that their work will bring back the butterflies that once filled the garden. If the bees had not been invited back, the children argue, the flowers would only have grown weaker.

Not everyone is happy about the project. Some parents, whose children have allergies, worry that there will be too many insects near the classrooms. Others fear that footballs, kicked by excited players, will damage the young plants. The teachers promise that every class will be asked before any new animal is brought in. "Nothing will be decided," the head teacher said, "without the pupils having been asked first."
