Tip: misinformation (false information spread unknowingly) and disinformation (a deliberate, deceptive falsehood) are different. Using this distinction correctly in IELTS raises your lexical resource score.
Aşağıdaki model cümleler yukarıdaki collocation'ları örnek soruya (The news media has become more influential than ever. To what extent do you agree?) ve komşu alt konulara bağlar. Kalıbı al, konunu yerleştir.
Bir kalıbı ezberlerken "bağlaç + collocation" birlikte al: Rather than…, While… also… yapıları hem coherence hem grammar puanını yükseltir.
The model sentences below link the collocations above to a sample question (The news media has become more influential than ever. To what extent do you agree?) and to neighbouring subtopics. Take the pattern and drop in your own topic.
When you memorise a pattern, take the "connector + collocation" together: Rather than…, While… also… structures raise both your coherence and grammar scores.
Speaking'de deyim ve phrasal verb doğallık (fluency) ve lexical resource puanını yükseltir — ama zorlama değil, yerinde kullanılmalı.
| Doğal ifade | Anlam |
|---|---|
| to keep up with the news | haberleri takip etmek |
| to scroll through your feed | akışta gezinmek |
| to take something with a pinch of salt | bir şeye ihtiyatla yaklaşmak |
| to be glued to your phone / screen | telefona/ekrana yapışıp kalmak |
| to log off / switch off | (sosyal medyadan) uzaklaşmak, kafa dinlemek |
| to jump on the bandwagon | popüler akıma kapılmak |
| to spread like wildfire | çok hızlı yayılmak |
| a household name | herkesin tanıdığı ünlü isim/marka |
| to blow something out of proportion | bir şeyi abartmak/büyütmek |
Örnek yanıt cümleleri:
Speaking'de bir cevapta 1-2 deyim yeter. Peş peşe deyim sıralamak yapay durur ve akıcılığı düşürür.
In Speaking, idioms and phrasal verbs raise your fluency and lexical resource scores — but they should not be forced; use them where they fit.
| Natural expression | Meaning |
|---|---|
| to keep up with the news | haberleri takip etmek |
| to scroll through your feed | akışta gezinmek |
| to take something with a pinch of salt | bir şeye ihtiyatla yaklaşmak |
| to be glued to your phone / screen | telefona/ekrana yapışıp kalmak |
| to log off / switch off | (sosyal medyadan) uzaklaşmak, kafa dinlemek |
| to jump on the bandwagon | popüler akıma kapılmak |
| to spread like wildfire | çok hızlı yayılmak |
| a household name | herkesin tanıdığı ünlü isim/marka |
| to blow something out of proportion | bir şeyi abartmak/büyütmek |
Example answer sentences:
One or two idioms per answer in Speaking is enough. Stacking idioms back to back sounds artificial and lowers fluency.
Aynı fikri sıradan kelimeyle söylemekle (Band 5) üst düzey collocation'la söylemek (Band 7-9) arasındaki fark, lexical resource notunu belirler. Aşağıda aynı anlam üç seviyede yeniden yazılmıştır.
Sık geçen upgrade'ler:
| Sıradan | Band 7-9 |
|---|---|
| fake news | the spread of misinformation / disinformation |
| famous on the internet | an influential content creator |
| news companies | media outlets / news organisations |
| people only see one side | users are trapped in an echo chamber |
Upgrade ederken doğallığı koru: "Büyük" kelime seçmek değil, doğru collocation'ı seçmek Band 9'dur. shape public opinion doğru; form public thought zorlama durur.
The gap between saying the same idea with ordinary words (Band 5) and with high-level collocation (Band 7-9) determines your lexical resource score. Below, the same meaning is rewritten at three levels.
Common upgrades:
| Ordinary | Band 7-9 |
|---|---|
| fake news | the spread of misinformation / disinformation |
| famous on the internet | an influential content creator |
| news companies | media outlets / news organisations |
| people only see one side | users are trapped in an echo chamber |
When you upgrade, keep it natural: Band 9 is not about picking a "big" word but the right collocation. shape public opinion is correct; form public thought sounds forced.
Türk öğrencilerin bu temada en çok yaptığı hatalar genelde birebir çeviriden, yanlış eş-dizimden ve sayılabilirlik karışıklığından kaynaklanır.
Yanlış collocation / doğrudan çeviri hataları:
Sayılabilirlik tuzakları: media, news, information, propaganda, advertising sayılamaz — "a news", "informations", "advertisings" yanlıştır. Kullan: a piece of news, a piece of information, an advertisement / an advert / an ad (bunlar sayılabilir).
Push öncesi kullanım kontrol listesi:
Band 7 lexical resource "zor kelime" değil, "doğru ve doğal kelime" ister. Emin olmadığın bir kalıbı kullanmaktansa bildiğin doğru collocation'ı kullan.
The mistakes Turkish students make most often on this theme usually stem from direct translation, wrong word pairing and countability confusion.
Wrong collocation / direct-translation mistakes:
Countability traps: media, news, information, propaganda, advertising are uncountable — "a news", "informations", "advertisings" are incorrect. Use: a piece of news, a piece of information, an advertisement / an advert / an ad (these are countable).
Pre-submission usage checklist:
Band 7 lexical resource is not about "difficult words" but "correct and natural words". Rather than using a pattern you are unsure of, use a correct collocation you know.
