Aşağıdaki model cümleler yukarıdaki collocation'ları örnek soruya (Some believe governments should fund the arts, while others think the money should be spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree?) ve komşu alt konulara bağlar. Kalıbı al, konunu yerleştir.
Bir kalıbı ezberlerken “bağlaç + collocation” birlikte al: Rather than…, While… deserves… yapıları hem coherence hem grammar puanını yükseltir.
The model sentences below link the collocations above to a sample question (Some believe governments should fund the arts, while others think the money should be spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree?) and to neighbouring subtopics. Take the pattern and drop in your own topic.
When you memorise a pattern, take the “connector + collocation” together: Rather than…, While… deserves… structures raise both your coherence and grammar scores.
Speaking'de deyim ve phrasal verb doğallık (fluency) ve lexical resource puanını yükseltir — ama zorlama değil, yerinde kullanılmalı.
| Doğal ifade | Anlam |
|---|---|
| to be into art / music | sanata / müziğe meraklı olmak |
| to have an eye for detail | detaya karşı gözü olmak |
| a feast for the eyes | göz şöleni |
| to take your breath away | nefes kesmek / büyülemek |
| to be right up my street | tam bana göre olmak |
| to grow on you | zamanla sevmeye başlamak |
| a work of art | gerçek bir sanat eseri (mecazi) |
| to stand the test of time | zamana meydan okumak, kalıcı olmak |
| to keep a tradition alive | bir geleneği yaşatmak |
Örnek yanıt cümleleri:
Speaking'de bir cevapta 1-2 deyim yeter. Peş peşe deyim sıralamak yapay durur ve akıcılığı düşürür.
In Speaking, idioms and phrasal verbs raise your fluency and lexical resource scores — but they should not be forced; use them where they fit.
| Natural expression | Meaning |
|---|---|
| to be into art / music | sanata / müziğe meraklı olmak |
| to have an eye for detail | detaya karşı gözü olmak |
| a feast for the eyes | göz şöleni |
| to take your breath away | nefes kesmek / büyülemek |
| to be right up my street | tam bana göre olmak |
| to grow on you | zamanla sevmeye başlamak |
| a work of art | gerçek bir sanat eseri (mecazi) |
| to stand the test of time | zamana meydan okumak, kalıcı olmak |
| to keep a tradition alive | bir geleneği yaşatmak |
Example answer sentences:
One or two idioms per answer in Speaking is enough. Stacking idioms back to back sounds artificial and lowers fluency.
Aynı fikri sıradan kelimeyle söylemekle (Band 5) üst düzey collocation'la söylemek (Band 7-9) arasındaki fark, lexical resource notunu belirler. Aşağıda aynı anlam üç seviyede yeniden yazılmıştır.
Sık geçen upgrade'ler:
| Sıradan | Band 7-9 |
|---|---|
| old traditions | time-honoured traditions / customs |
| keep the old buildings | preserve / restore historic buildings |
| art from now | contemporary art |
| give money to museums | subsidise museums / allocate funds to |
Upgrade ederken doğallığı koru: “Büyük” kelime seçmek değil, doğru collocation'ı seçmek Band 9'dur. preserve heritage doğru; protect heritage de kabul ama save heritage zorlama durur.
The gap between saying the same idea with ordinary words (Band 5) and with high-level collocation (Band 7-9) determines your lexical resource score. Below, the same meaning is rewritten at three levels.
Common upgrades:
| Ordinary | Band 7-9 |
|---|---|
| old traditions | time-honoured traditions / customs |
| keep the old buildings | preserve / restore historic buildings |
| art from now | contemporary art |
| give money to museums | subsidise museums / allocate funds to |
When you upgrade, keep it natural: Band 9 is not about picking a “big” word but the right collocation. preserve heritage is correct; protect heritage is also acceptable, but save heritage sounds forced.
Türk öğrencilerin bu temada en çok yaptığı hatalar genelde birebir çeviriden ve yanlış eş-dizimden kaynaklanır.
Yanlış collocation / doğrudan çeviri hataları:
Sayılabilirlik ve “the arts” tuzağı: Soyut anlamda art (resim, heykel vb. sanat kavramı) sayılamaz. Kurumsal/geniş anlamda "sanatlar" için genellikle belirli artikelle the arts kullanılır: funding for the arts, the performing arts. Ayrıca heritage, culture ve creativity de sayılamaz — “a heritage”, “creativities” yanlıştır.
Push öncesi kullanım kontrol listesi:
Band 7 lexical resource “zor kelime” değil, “doğru ve doğal kelime” ister. Emin olmadığın bir kalıbı kullanmaktansa bildiğin doğru collocation'ı kullan.
The mistakes Turkish students make most often on this theme usually stem from direct translation and wrong word pairing.
Wrong collocation / direct-translation mistakes:
Countability and the “the arts” trap: In the abstract sense, art (the concept of art: painting, sculpture, etc.) is uncountable. For "the arts" in the institutional/broad sense, the definite article is usually used: the arts, used as: funding for the arts, the performing arts. In addition, heritage, culture and creativity are also uncountable — “a heritage”, “creativities” are incorrect.
Pre-submission usage checklist:
Band 7 lexical resource is not about “difficult words” but “correct and natural words”. Rather than using a pattern you are unsure of, use a correct collocation you know.
