Bu sayfa YDT (YKS Dil) paragraf tamamlama sorularını hedefler. Açıklamalar Türkçe, örnek metinler B1-B2 seviye İngilizce olarak verilmiştir.
This page targets YDT (YKS Language) paragraph-completion questions. The explanations are in English, and the example texts are given in English at B1-B2 level.
Paragraph completion is one of YDT's question types that most demands “read and think”. One sentence has been removed from a 4-5 sentence paragraph; you are asked to choose the complete sentence that fills the blank. The correct sentence provides both coherence (flow of meaning) and cohesion (connector/reference agreement). On this page you will find the three positions of the blank, a step-by-step solving method, and three worked examples at B1-B2 level.
In YDT, the paragraph-completion question is formed by removing one sentence from a short 4-5 sentence text. In the removed place there is a “----” mark, and below it five complete-sentence options are given. Your task is to find the sentence that, when placed in the blank, makes the paragraph smooth both in meaning and in its grammatical connections.
This question type measures two basic skills:
The blank can be in three different places, and the position directly determines the type of sentence sought:
Short summary: Filling the blank is like finding the missing piece of a jigsaw. The piece must fit both by its edge shape (grammar/connector) and by its picture (meaning).
Paragraf tamamlamada acele şıkka atlamak en sık yapılan hatadır. Şu sırayı alışkanlık haline getir:
Altın kural: Doğru cümle sadece “konuyla ilgili” değildir; önceki cümleden mantıklı şekilde çıkar ve sonraki cümleyi mantıklı şekilde hazırlar. İki yöne birden bakmadan karar verme.
In paragraph completion, jumping to the options in a hurry is the most common mistake. Make this order a habit:
Golden rule: The correct sentence is not just “related to the topic”; it follows logically from the previous sentence and logically prepares the next one. Don't decide without looking in both directions.
Boşluğun paragraftaki yeri, aranan cümlenin görevini belirler. Her konumun kendine özgü ipuçları vardır:
| Konum | Beklenen cümle | İpucu |
|---|---|---|
| Baş | Konuyu tanıtan genel cümle (topic sentence). Sonraki cümlelere zemin hazırlar. | Kendisi bir gönderimle başlamaz. Sonraki cümledeki this, these, such onun neyi tanıttığını ele verir. |
| Orta | Önceki fikri sonraki fikre bağlayan köprü cümle. Çoğunlukla bir bağlaç taşır. | Hem geriye hem ileriye uymalı. However / therefore / for example ilişkisinin yönünü kontrol et. |
| Son | Sonuç, özet ya da değerlendirme. Yeni konu açmaz, mevcut fikri kapatır. | Sıklıkla therefore, as a result, in short gibi kapanış sinyalleri taşır. Yeni bir konu getiren şık yanlıştır. |
Pratik test: Seçtiğin cümle başta yeni bir konu açıyor ama paragraf onu işlemiyorsa; ya da sonda cevapsız bir soru bırakıyorsa yanlıştır. İyi bir cümle konumunun görevini eksiksiz yapar.
The place of the blank in the paragraph determines the function of the sentence sought. Each position has its own clues:
| Position | Expected sentence | Clue |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | A general sentence introducing the topic (topic sentence). It sets the ground for the following sentences. | It does not itself start with a reference. The this, these, such in the next sentence reveals what it introduces. |
| Middle | A bridge sentence linking the previous idea to the next one. It usually carries a connector. | It must fit both backward and forward. Check the direction of the However / therefore / for example relationship. |
| Closing | A conclusion, summary or evaluation. It opens no new topic; it closes the current idea. | It often carries closing signals such as therefore, as a result, in short. An option that brings a new topic is wrong. |
Practical test: If the sentence you chose opens a new topic at the beginning but the paragraph does not develop it; or if it leaves an unanswered question at the end, it is wrong. A good sentence fully performs the function of its position.
Aşağıdaki üç örnek sırasıyla orta, baş ve son boşluğu gösterir. Her birinde önce paragrafı kendin oku, sonra çözümü incele.
Örnek.
Many students believe that studying late at night helps them remember more. In reality, the brain organizes new information mainly during deep sleep. ---- For this reason, going to bed on time can be just as valuable as an extra hour of revision.
Örnek.
---- They can travel long distances without stopping, using the stars and the Earth's magnetic field to find their way. Some species even return to the exact same nesting site year after year. Such precise navigation still amazes scientists who study animal behaviour.
Örnek.
When online shopping first became popular, many people worried that small local shops would disappear completely. However, a number of these shops have adapted by selling their products on the internet as well. They now reach customers in other cities and even other countries. ----
The three examples below show a middle, an opening and a closing blank respectively. In each, read the paragraph yourself first, then study the solution.
