Bu sayfadaki İngilizce cümleler B1-B2 YDT seviyesindedir; Türkçe açıklamalar örnekleri adım adım çözer. Cümleleri ezberlemek yerine mantığı kavramaya odaklan.
The English sentences on this page are at B1-B2 YDT level; the explanations solve the examples step by step. Focus on grasping the logic rather than memorising the sentences.
YDT çeviri soruları, bir cümlenin anlamını ve yapısını diğer dile eksiksiz aktaran şıkkı bulmanı ister. Sınav iki yönde sorar: İngilizceden Türkçeye ve Türkçeden İngilizceye. Çeldiriciler asla tek kelimelik yanlışla kurulmaz; kip (must/might), kapsam (all/some), neden-sonuç/koşul ve atlanan öğe gibi ince kaymalarla kurulur. Bu sayfa, YDS'ye göre daha kısa ve erişilebilir YDT cümleleriyle bu tuzakları nasıl ayıklayacağını gösterir.
YDT translation questions ask you to find the option that transfers a sentence's meaning and structure into the other language completely. The exam asks in two directions: English to Turkish and Turkish to English. Distractors are never built on a single-word error; they are built on subtle shifts such as modality (must/might), scope (all/some), cause-effect/condition and a dropped element. This page shows you how to weed out these traps using YDT sentences, which are shorter and more accessible than YDS ones.
Temel ilke. Doğru şıkkı “en güzel Türkçe/İngilizce” diye değil, “hangi şık hiçbir şey eklemeden ve hiçbir şey düşürmeden aynı mesajı veriyor” diye seç.
The YDT translation question makes you choose, from five options, the most accurate and complete equivalent of a given sentence in the other language. The key word here is “complete”: the correct option preserves both the meaning and the grammatical structure (tense, modality, scope, connector) of the sentence. The option that sounds most fluent is not always correct; sometimes the smoothest Turkish is actually a distractor that slightly shifts the meaning.
The exam asks in two directions:
YDT sentences are shorter than YDS ones (about 15-28 words) and use everyday, general language rather than academic language. This means they measure structure-reading skill more than vocabulary knowledge. The good news: in a short sentence there are few places for a trap to hide; if you extract the skeleton correctly, the distractors are exposed quickly.
Why does this question type earn points? Because in translation the answer is not open to interpretation: the correct option is unique and is found with measurable rules. In reading-comprehension questions you can weigh the “closest” answer, but in translation an option either carries the message fully or shifts somewhere. This clarity makes translation the exam's most reliable source of points for the student who sets up the right method. The aim is not to rewrite the sentence in Turkish, but to check whether the two sentences contain the same information.
Core principle. Choose the correct option not by “the nicest Turkish/English” but by “which option gives the same message without adding anything and without dropping anything”.
“-meli” should/must, “-ebilir” can/may/might, “-dığı için” because/since, “-se” if demektir. Ekle kelime eşleşmiyorsa, o şık çeldiricidir.
In a translation question, panicking and reading the five options over and over wastes time and clouds the mind. Instead, first map the stem sentence, then test the options against this map.
This ordering is not accidental: the fastest-to-eliminate traps come first. Modality and scope usually depend on a single word, so they knock out two or three options within seconds. The connector and the dropped element, on the other hand, require reading the whole sentence, so they are left for last. If you manage your time this way, it noticeably lowers your average time on translation questions and lets you transfer the remaining time to harder questions.
The TR→EN direction requires extra care: Turkish suffixes (-meli, -ebilir, -se, -dığı için) correspond to separate words in English. Mark these suffixes in the Turkish stem sentence, then look for the English equivalent of each in the options. “-meli” means should/must, “-ebilir” means can/may/might, “-dığı için” means because/since, and “-se” means if. If the suffix and the word do not match, that option is a distractor.
YDT çeldiricileri dört ana yoldan üretilir. Her birini tanıdığında, şıkka bakar bakmaz tuzağın türünü söyleyebilirsin. Aşağıdaki tablo, her tuzağı doğru aktarım ile çeldirici aktarım üzerinden karşılaştırır.
| Tuzak türü | Doğru aktarım | Çeldirici (kayma) |
|---|---|---|
| Kip kayması | “She must be tired.” = “Kesinlikle yorgundur.” (güçlü çıkarım) | “Yorgun olabilir.” (might ile olasılığa düşürülmüş) |
| Kapsam kayması | “Öğrencilerin çoğu katıldı.” = most students | “Bütün öğrenciler katıldı.” (all ile abartılmış) |
İngilizcede edilgen yapı (The report was written by the intern) olayın nesnesini öne çıkarır; çeldirici bunu etken kurup özneyi (“stajyer”) öne alarak vurguyu kaydırabilir. Anlam kabaca aynı görünse de, doğru şık kaynağın çatısını (etken/edilgen) korumaya çalışır. Aynı şekilde not only ... but also, the more ... the more gibi kalıplar tek parça taşınmalıdır; yarısını atlayan şık eksiktir.
İpucu. Kip ve kapsam tuzakları en sinsi olanlardır çünkü cümlenin geri kalanı harfi harfine doğrudur; sadece bir kelime mesajın kesinlik derecesini değiştirir. Şüpheye düştüğünde tek bir soru sor: “Konuşan kişi bundan ne kadar emin?” Doğru şık, o emin olma derecesini aynen korur.
YDT distractors are produced in four main ways. Once you recognise each, you can name the type of trap the moment you look at an option. The table below compares each trap through a correct rendering and a distractor rendering.
| Trap type | Correct rendering | Distractor (shift) |
|---|---|---|
| Modality shift | “She must be tired.” = “Kesinlikle yorgundur.” (strong inference) | “Yorgun olabilir.” (reduced to a possibility with might) |
| Scope shift | “Öğrencilerin çoğu katıldı.” = most students | “Bütün öğrenciler katıldı.” (exaggerated with all) |
| Cause-effect / condition distortion | “Yağmur yağdığı için maç ertelendi.” (a cause that occurred) | “Yağmur yağarsa maç ertelenir.” (turned into a condition) |
| Dropped / added element | “Proje henüz tamamlanmadı.” (time adverb + negation preserved) | “Proje tamamlanmadı.” (yet dropped) or “Proje asla tamamlanmayacak.” (an element added) |
Beyond these four traps, a second-level shift often seen in YDT is a change of emphasis/focus. In English the passive structure (The report was written by the intern) foregrounds the object of the event; a distractor can make this active and shift the emphasis by bringing the subject (“the intern”) to the front. Even though the meaning looks roughly the same, the correct option tries to preserve the voice (active/passive) of the source. Likewise, patterns such as not only ... but also and the more ... the more must be carried as a single piece; an option that drops half of them is incomplete.
Tip. Modality and scope traps are the most insidious because the rest of the sentence is literally correct; only one word changes the degree of certainty of the message. When in doubt, ask a single question: “How sure is the speaker of this?” The correct option preserves that degree of certainty exactly.
Aşağıdaki üç örnek YDT seviyesinde (B1-B2, 15-28 kelime) kurulmuştur. Her birini önce kendin çöz, sonra adım adım çözümü oku. Her çözümde önce iskeleti çıkarıyor, ardından şıkları kip-kapsam-bağlaç filtresinden geçiriyoruz. Dikkat: doğru cevaplar bilerek farklı harflere dağıtıldı, yani harf örüntüsüne değil yalnızca içeriğe güven.
Örnek 1 (EN→TR). Although the new app looks simple, most users need a short tutorial before they can use all of its features.
Örnek 2 (TR→EN). Toplantı çok uzun sürdüğü için birçok katılımcı sona kalmadan salondan ayrıldı.
Örnek 3 (EN→TR). You should book the tickets early; otherwise, you may not find seats together on such a busy route.
The three examples below are set at YDT level (B1-B2, 15-28 words). Solve each yourself first, then read the step-by-step explanation. In each solution we first extract the skeleton, then run the options through the modality-scope-connector filter. Note: the correct answers were deliberately spread across different letters, so trust only the content, not a letter pattern.

Akıcılığı doğrulukla karıştırmak. En pürüzsüz Türkçe çoğu zaman en doğru çeviri değildir. Çeldirici, kulağa hoş gelsin diye cümleye küçük bir ekleme yapar. Önce sadakati kontrol et, güzellik ikinci sıradadır.
Kipi gözden kaçırmak. must / should / might / may / can arasındaki kesinlik farkı en çok puan kaybettiren noktadır. “yapmalı” ile “yapabilir” asla aynı şey değildir.
Bağlacı hızlıca okumak. because, although, if, so, otherwise cümlenin mantık yönünü belirler. Zıtlığı nedene, nedeni koşula çeviren şık en klasik tuzaktır; bağlacı her zaman iki kez oku.
Kapsam sözcüklerini saymayı unutmak. all/most/some/no/only tek kelimedir ama cümlenin tümünü değiştirir. Nicelik değişen şık, gerisi ne kadar doğru olursa olsun yanlıştır.
Küçük öğeleri atlamak. yet, still, only, together, again gibi zarflar ve olumsuzluk ekleri sessizce düşürülebilir. Doğru şıkta bu öğelerin tamamı bulunmalıdır.
Confusing fluency with accuracy. The smoothest Turkish is often not the most accurate translation. The distractor makes a small addition to the sentence to make it sound nice. Check fidelity first; beauty comes second.
Overlooking the modality. The difference in certainty among must / should / might / may / can is the point that costs the most points. “yapmalı” (must do) and “yapabilir” (can do) are never the same thing.
Reading the connector too quickly. because, although, if, so, otherwise determine the logical direction of the sentence. The option that turns contrast into cause or cause into condition is the most classic trap; always read the connector twice.
Forgetting to count the scope words. all/most/some/no/only are single words but change the whole sentence. An option whose quantity has changed is wrong, however correct the rest may be.
Skipping small elements. Adverbs such as yet, still, only, together, again and negation markers can be quietly dropped. In the correct option all of these elements must be present.
Her çeviri sorusunu işaretlemeden önce, doğru şıkkın şu beş testten geçtiğinden emin ol:
Before marking each translation question, make sure the correct option passes these five tests:
