Bu sayfadaki tüm İngilizce cümleler B1-B2 seviyesindedir ve YDT paragraf mantığına göre seçilmiştir; açıklamalar Türkçedir.
All the English sentences on this page are at B1-B2 level and are chosen to match YDT paragraph logic; the explanations are in English.
Anlam bütünlüğünü bozan cümle sorusunda beş cümlelik kısa bir paragrafta (I-V) akışa uymayan, konudan sapan cümleyi bulursun. Altın kural: I. cümle daima konu (giriş) cümlesidir, asla cevap olamaz; ilgisiz cümle her zaman II-V arasındadır. İlgisiz cümle çoğu zaman paragrafla ortak bir kelime taşır ama odaktan veya mantık akışından sapar. Bu sayfada I. cümleden odağı çıkarmayı, kalan cümleleri odağa bağlamayı ve sahte bağlaç tuzaklarını tanımayı B1-B2 örneklerle öğreneceksin.
In the sentence that breaks the coherence question, you find the sentence that does not fit the flow and strays from the topic within a short five-sentence paragraph (I-V). Golden rule: Sentence I is always the topic (introductory) sentence and can never be the answer; the irrelevant sentence is always between II-V. The irrelevant sentence often shares a word with the paragraph but strays from the focus or the logical flow. On this page you will learn, with B1-B2 examples, how to extract the focus from Sentence I, how to link the remaining sentences to that focus, and how to recognise false-connector traps.
Sentence (I) yani I. cümle daima konu (giriş) cümlesidir. Paragrafın çerçevesini o çizer; bu yüzden asla cevap olamaz. İlgisiz cümle her zaman II ile V arasındadır. Eğer aklından "cevap I olabilir mi?" diye geçiyorsa, soruyu yanlış okuyorsun demektir.
Örneğin şu paragrafta konu bellidir:
(I) Many teenagers today prefer to watch short videos rather than read long articles. (II) These videos are usually under a minute and easy to share with friends. (III) They often summarise a topic in a quick and simple way. (IV) The first public library in the world opened thousands of years ago. (V) For this reason, short videos have become a popular source of daily information.
I. cümle konuyu verir: gençlerin kısa videoları tercih etmesi. II, III ve V bu odağı sürdürür. IV ise kütüphanelerden söz ederek bambaşka bir alana kayar; ortak tema "okuma/bilgi" gibi görünse de paragrafın odağını bozar. Cevap IV'tür.
In YDT (YKS Language), the sentence that breaks the coherence questions give a short paragraph made of five sentences. The sentences are numbered (I), (II), (III), (IV), (V) and the options are these numbers too. What is asked of you is a single thing: to find the sentence that does not belong to the topic and breaks the coherence and flow of the paragraph.
For a paragraph to have "coherence" means that all its sentences advance around the same topic and with the same focus. The irrelevant sentence is usually distantly related to the topic; it even often shares a common word with the paragraph. But on close inspection it drifts to a different sub-topic, veers off in a different direction, or fails to continue the idea promised by the introductory sentence.
Golden rule. Sentence (I), that is, Sentence I is always the topic (introductory) sentence. It draws the frame of the paragraph; that is why it can never be the answer. The irrelevant sentence is always between II and V. If the thought "could the answer be I?" crosses your mind, you are reading the question wrong.
For example, in the following paragraph the topic is clear:
(I) Many teenagers today prefer to watch short videos rather than read long articles. (II) These videos are usually under a minute and easy to share with friends. (III) They often summarise a topic in a quick and simple way. (IV) The first public library in the world opened thousands of years ago. (V) For this reason, short videos have become a popular source of daily information.
Sentence I gives the topic: teenagers preferring short videos. II, III and V continue this focus. IV, however, drifts to a completely different area by talking about libraries; although the common theme looks like "reading/information", it breaks the paragraph's focus. The answer is IV.
Bu soru tipinde sezgiyle değil, sistemle ilerlemek gerekir. Aşağıdaki dört adım, YDT paragraflarının neredeyse tamamında işe yarar.
İpucu. Genellikle ilgisiz cümlenin bir önceki ve bir sonraki cümlesi birbirine sorunsuz bağlanır. Yani ilgisiz cümleyi çıkardığında "kopan" iki uç aslında birbirini tamamlıyorsa, doğru cümleyi bulmuşsun demektir.
In this question type you must proceed with a system, not with intuition. The four steps below work in almost every YDT paragraph.
Tip. Usually the sentence before and the sentence after the irrelevant one connect to each other seamlessly. So if the two "loose" ends actually complete each other when you remove the irrelevant sentence, you have found the right sentence.
ÖSYM ilgisiz cümleyi asla açıkça "yabancı" bırakmaz; onu paragrafın içine ustaca yedirir. En sık kullanılan iki kamuflaj tekniği vardır.
1. Ortak kelime taşıyıp farklı alt-konuya kayma. İlgisiz cümle, paragraftaki bir kelimeyi (örneğin "school", "water", "phone") aynen tekrarlar. Bu tekrar sana "aynı konu" hissi verir. Oysa cümle o kelimeyi bahane edip başka bir alt-konuya sıçrar. Kelime aynıdır ama fikir farklıdır.
2. Sahte bağlaç. Cümle for example veya however gibi güçlü bir bağlaçla başlar; bu da onu akışın parçasıymış gibi gösterir. Ama söylediği şey önceki cümlenin ne örneği ne de karşıtıdır. Bağlaç doğru, içerik yanlıştır.
| Tuzak | Nasıl görünür | Nasıl yakalarsın |
|---|---|---|
| Ortak kelime | Aynı ismi/kavramı tekrar eder | Kelimeye değil, cümlenin ilettiği fikre bak |
| Sahte bağlaç | for example / however ile başlar | Bağlacın vaat ettiği ilişki gerçekten var mı diye sor |
| Zaman/mekân kayması | Aniden geçmişe ya da başka yere geçer | Paragrafın zaman-mekân çerçevesiyle karşılaştır |
| Genelden özele/tersine sapma | Konunun bir yan detayına takılır | Ana odak mı yoksa tali detay mı diye ölç |
The app reminds users to drink water every two hours.
Konu "su içme uygulaması" ise, bu cümle odağı sürdürür.
Water covers about seventy percent of the Earth's surface.
"Water" ortak ama fikir uygulamadan coğrafyaya kayar; ilgisizdir.
ÖSYM never leaves the irrelevant sentence obviously "foreign"; it skilfully blends it into the paragraph. There are two most commonly used camouflage techniques.
1. Carrying a common word while drifting to a different sub-topic. The irrelevant sentence repeats a word from the paragraph (for example "school", "water", "phone") verbatim. This repetition gives you the feeling of "same topic". Yet the sentence uses that word as a pretext to jump to another sub-topic. The word is the same but the idea is different.
2. The false connector. The sentence starts with a strong connector such as for example or however; this makes it look like part of the flow. But what it says is neither an example of nor a contrast to the previous sentence. The connector is right, the content is wrong.
| Trap | How it looks | How you catch it |
|---|---|---|
| Common word | Repeats the same noun/concept | Look at the idea the sentence conveys, not the word |
| False connector | Starts with for example / however | Ask whether the relationship the connector promises really exists |
| Time/place shift | Suddenly moves to the past or to another place | Compare it with the time-place frame of the paragraph |
| Drift from general to a minor point | Gets stuck on a side detail of the topic | Measure whether it is the main focus or a minor detail |
The app reminds users to drink water every two hours.
If the topic is a "water-drinking app", this sentence continues the focus.
Water covers about seventy percent of the Earth's surface.
"Water" is shared, but the idea drifts from the app to geography; it is irrelevant.
Aşağıdaki üç örneği önce kendin çözmeye çalış, sonra Türkçe çözümü oku. Doğru cevaplar bilerek farklı konumlara (II, V, III) yerleştirildi; "cevap hep IV olur" alışkanlığından kurtul.
Örnek 1.
(I) Bees play an important role in growing the fruits and vegetables we eat. (II) As they move from flower to flower, they carry pollen and help plants produce seeds. (III) Honey has been used as a natural sweetener for thousands of years. (IV) Without this process, many crops would produce far less food. (V) That is why farmers often welcome bees near their fields.
Örnek 2.
(I) Learning a new language as an adult can feel difficult at first. (II) Adults often worry about making mistakes in front of others. (III) However, they can use their life experience to understand grammar rules faster. (IV) With regular practice, most adults make steady progress over time. (V) Children usually need more years of schooling than adults to finish their education.
Örnek 3.
(I) Recycling at home is easier when families sort their waste into separate bins. (II) Paper, glass and plastic can each go into a different container. (III) This simple habit saves time at the recycling centre and reduces mistakes. (IV) Many families enjoy cooking traditional meals together on weekends. (V) Over time, sorting waste becomes a natural part of the daily routine.
Try to solve the three examples below yourself first, then read the explanation. The correct answers were deliberately placed in different positions (II, V, III); break the "the answer is always IV" habit.

1. I. cümleyi cevap sanmak. Öğrencilerin en sık hatası budur. I. cümle bazen genel/geniş göründüğü için "konuya uzak" sanılır. Oysa I. cümle konuyu kuran cümledir; ötekiler ona göre değerlendirilir. I asla cevap olamaz.
2. Ortak kelimeye kanıp cümleyi "ilgili" saymak. Aynı kelimeyi gördüğün an "bu paragrafa aittir" diye düşünme. ÖSYM tam da bu refleksi kullanır. Kelimeye değil, cümlenin taşıdığı fikre ve odağa bak.
3. Bağlaca güvenip içeriği okumamak. However ya da for example ile başlayan cümle otomatik olarak akışa uymaz.
Her cümleyi eşit dikkatle tart.
1. Mistaking Sentence I for the answer. This is students' most common mistake. Because Sentence I sometimes looks general/broad, it is thought to be "far from the topic". Yet Sentence I is the sentence that establishes the topic; the others are judged against it. I can never be the answer.
2. Being fooled by a common word into counting a sentence as "relevant". The moment you see the same word, don't think "this belongs to the paragraph". ÖSYM uses precisely this reflex. Look at the idea and focus the sentence carries, not the word.
3. Trusting the connector and not reading the content. A sentence starting with However or for example does not automatically fit the flow. Check the content to see whether the relationship the connector sets up really exists.
4. Thinking a sentence is correct because its grammar/vocabulary is correct. The irrelevant sentence is usually flawless grammatically. You are looking for "coherence", not for a grammar mistake. What matters is not whether the sentence is correct but whether it belongs.
5. Automatically treating the last sentence as safe. Sentence V is the concluding sentence in most paragraphs, but not always. Sometimes the irrelevant sentence is placed exactly at V (see Example 2). Weigh every sentence with equal care.
