Tablo görevinde başarı, tüm hücreleri yazmaktan değil doğru örüntüleri seçip karşılaştırmaktan gelir.
Success in the table task comes not from writing all the cells but from selecting and comparing the right patterns.
IELTS Writing Task 1'de tablo (table), çok kategorili sayısal veriyi karşılaştırmanı ister; sırrı hepsini yazmak değil en çarpıcı örüntüleri seçip karşılaştırmaktır. Adım adım yöntem, oran dili ve Band 8+ çözümlü model için görselli tam modele da göz at.
In IELTS Writing Task 1, a table asks you to compare multi-category numerical data; the secret is not to write everything but to select and compare the most striking patterns. For a step-by-step method, ratio language, and Band 8+ model solutions, check out the visual full model.
In IELTS Writing Task 1, a table provides you with multi-category numerical data consisting of rows and columns and asks you to summarize this data by comparing it. Unlike a line graph, it often presents multiple dimensions (for example, different countries, years, age groups) at once. This is precisely why the table is the type of task that candidates panic the most about: there are dozens of numbers in front of you, and the urge to write them all leads you in the wrong direction.
Like every IELTS Task 1 response, a table is written in 4 paragraphs and 170-200 words. The structure is as follows:
Thus, success comes not from reading the table one by one but from looking at it with an editor's eye and answering the question, "What really stands out here?"

Yazmaya başlamadan önce 2-3 dakikanı tabloyu okumaya ve örüntü avlamaya ayır. Aşağıdaki adımlar, hangi sayıların yanıtına gireceğini ve hangilerinin dışarıda kalacağını belirlemeni sağlar.
Before you start writing, spend 2-3 minutes reading the table and hunting for patterns. The following steps will help you determine which numbers to include in your response and which to leave out.
Tablo görevi, dil bilgisi açısından karşılaştırma ve oran ifadeleri üzerine kuruludur. Aşağıdaki kalıplar, aynı sayıyı tekrar tekrar "was" ile bağlamak yerine zengin bir Lexical Resource sergilemeni sağlar.
| İşlev | İngilizce kalıp | Örnek kullanım |
|---|---|---|
| En yüksek / en düşük | the highest / the lowest, peaked at, the smallest figure | Germany recorded the highest figure, at 140. |
| Kat / oran | X times as high as, more than double, three times the figure | Spending was more than four times that of the oldest group. |
| Zıtlık | whereas, while, in contrast, by contrast, conversely | Reading rose with age, whereas exercise fell. |
| Aralık | ranged from A to B, varied between A and B | Figures ranged from 20 to 65 minutes. |
| Pay / katkı | accounted for, made up, represented | Television accounted for the bulk of the total. |
| Yakınlık | roughly the same as, comparable to, on a par with | France was on a par with Italy. |
Oran dilini abartma: her cümlede bir kat ifadesi kullanman gerekmez, ama en az bir güçlü oran karşılaştırması ("X times", "more than double") yanıtına mutlaka girmelidir; bu, Band 7+ ile 6.0 arasındaki farkı belirleyen detaylardan biridir.
The table task is fundamentally based on comparison and ratio expressions in terms of grammar. The following patterns allow you to showcase a rich Lexical Resource instead of repeatedly linking the same number with "was".
| Function | English pattern | Example usage |
|---|---|---|
| Highest / lowest | the highest / the lowest, peaked at, the smallest figure | Germany recorded the highest figure, at 140. |
| Ratio / proportion | X times as high as, more than double, three times the figure | Spending was more than four times that of the oldest group. |
| Contrast | whereas, while, in contrast, by contrast, conversely | Reading rose with age, whereas exercise fell. |
| Range | ranged from A to B, varied between A and B | Figures ranged from 20 to 65 minutes. |
| Share / contribution | accounted for, made up, represented | Television accounted for the bulk of the total. |
| Proximity | roughly the same as, comparable to, on a par with | France was on a par with Italy. |
Do not overdo ratio language: you do not need to use a ratio expression in every sentence, but there must be at least one strong ratio comparison ("X times", "more than double") in your response; this is one of the details that distinguishes Band 7+ from 6.0.
Aşağıdaki çok kolonlu tablo, gerçek bir IELTS tablo görevinin tipik yapısını taşır: bir boyutta etkinlikler (satırlar), diğer boyutta yaş grupları (sütunlar), hücrelerde ise dakika cinsinden değerler.
Soru: The table below shows the average number of minutes per day that three age groups in one country spent on four leisure activities. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
| Activity (minutes/day) | Aged 15–24 | Aged 25–44 | Aged 45–64 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Watching television | 60 | 95 | 140 |
| Social media | 130 | 75 | 30 |
| Reading | 20 | 35 | 65 |
| Exercise | 45 | 40 | 25 |
Şimdi bu tabloyu 4 paragrafta, seçilmiş sayılarla ve sıfır yorumla nasıl yazacağımıza bakalım:
Introduction
The table compares the average number of minutes that three age brackets in one country devoted to four different leisure activities on a typical day.
Overview (sayı yok)
Overall, television viewing and social media use accounted for the bulk of daily leisure time, yet they appealed to opposite ends of the age spectrum. In addition, time spent reading rose steadily with age, whereas exercise displayed the reverse pattern.
Detail 1
Social media clearly dominated the youngest group, at 130 minutes, more than four times the figure recorded by the oldest bracket (30 minutes). Television, however, showed the opposite tendency, climbing from 60 minutes among 15-to-24-year-olds to a peak of 140 minutes among those aged 45 to 64.
Detail 2
Turning to the two remaining activities, reading occupied a mere 20 minutes a day for the youngest respondents but more than tripled to 65 minutes among the oldest. Exercise, by contrast, followed a downward trajectory, ranging from 45 minutes for teenagers and young adults down to just 25 minutes for the 45-to-64 age group, highlighting a clear generational divide in physical activity.
The multi-column table below carries the typical structure of a real IELTS table task: one dimension activities (rows), the other dimension age groups (columns), with values in minutes.

Introduction
The table compares the average number of minutes that three age brackets in one country devoted to four different leisure activities on a typical day.
Overview (no numbers)
Tüm hücreleri sırayla yazmak. Tablo görevinde en yaygın ve en pahalı hata budur. "Watching television was 60 for 15-24, 95 for 25-44, 140 for 45-64..." diye her hücreyi listeleyen bir yanıt, karşılaştırma değil aktarım yapar ve Task Achievement 6.0'da takılır. Çözüm: her sayıyı bir örüntüye bağla, bağlayamıyorsan yazma.
Overview'da sayı kullanmak. Overview genel örüntünün paragrafıdır; oraya "130 minutes" gibi bir rakam koymak amacını bozar. Sayılar yalnızca detay paragraflarına (3 ve 4) aittir. Overview'ın "Overall" veya "In general" ile başlaması ve rakamsız olması gerekir.
Fiil ve yapı tekrarı. "X was..., Y was..., Z was..." kalıbını üç kez tekrarlamak Lexical Resource ve Grammatical Range puanını birlikte düşürür. Fiilleri döndür (recorded, stood at, accounted for) ve cümle yapısını çeşitlendir (edilgen, karşılaştırmalı, ilgi cümleciği).
Yorum ve sebep eklemek. "This is probably because young people are addicted to phones" gibi bir cümle Task 1'de puan getirmez, aksine "görev dışı" sayılır. Task 1 tarafsız bir rapordur; sebep, sonuç ve görüş Task 2'ye aittir.
Birimi ve zamanı atlamak. Introduction'da "dakika/gün" birimini ve (varsa) yılı belirtmemek, okuyucuyu bağlamdan koparır. Ayrıca tablo geçmiş bir yıla aitse geçmiş zaman, genel/güncel bir tablosa geniş zaman kullan; zaman kipini karıştırma.
Writing all cells in order. This is the most common and costly mistake in the table task. A response that lists each cell like "Watching television was 60 for 15-24, 95 for 25-44, 140 for 45-64..." does not compare but transmits information and gets stuck at 6.0 in Task Achievement. Solution: link each number to a pattern; if you can't, don't write it.
Using numbers in the overview. The overview is the paragraph of the general pattern; placing a number like "130 minutes" there defeats the purpose. Numbers belong only in the detail paragraphs (3 and 4). The overview must start with "Overall" or "In general" and be free of numbers.
Repetition of verbs and structures. Repeating the pattern "X was..., Y was..., Z was..." three times lowers both Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range scores. Rotate verbs (recorded, stood at, accounted for) and diversify sentence structures (passive, comparative, relative clauses).
Adding comments and reasons. A sentence like "This is probably because young people are addicted to phones" does not earn points in Task 1; rather, it is considered "off-task." Task 1 is a neutral report; reasons, results, and opinions belong to Task 2.
Skipping unit and time. Failing to specify the unit "minutes/day" and (if applicable) the year in the introduction disconnects the reader from the context. Also, if the table is from a past year, use the past tense; for a general/current table, use the present tense; do not mix tenses.
