The English phrases on this page are cue card, model speech and set-phrase examples; the explanations are in English. Rehearse the English parts out loud.
IELTS Speaking Part 2, sınavın “uzun konuşma” (long turn) bölümüdür. Size bir cue card (konu kartı) verilir; 1 dakika hazırlanır, ardından 1-2 dakika boyunca kesintisiz konuşursunuz. Sınav görevlisi araya girmez, sadece süreyi tutar. Bu sayfada Band 7+ için not planlamayı, zamanı doğal şekilde doldurmayı, betimleyici dil ve zaman çeşitliliğini bir model konuşmayla adım adım göstereceğiz.
IELTS Speaking Part 2 is the exam's “long turn” section. You are given a cue card (topic card); you prepare for 1 minute, then speak without interruption for 1-2 minutes. The examiner does not cut in, they simply keep time. On this page, with a model talk, we will show you step by step how to plan your notes for Band 7+, fill the time naturally, and use descriptive language and a variety of tenses.
IELTS Speaking üç bölümden oluşur ve Part 2 ortadaki “uzun konuşma” (long turn) aşamasıdır. Bu bölümde sınav görevlisi size bir cue card (konu kartı) uzatır. Kartın üstünde bir konu, altında ise “You should say…” diye başlayan 3-4 madde bulunur. Bu maddeler size ne anlatacağınızı gösteren bir yol haritasıdır.
Kartı aldıktan sonra tam olarak 1 dakika hazırlık süreniz olur. Bu sürede size verilen kâğıt ve kaleme not alabilirsiniz. Ardından görevli “Alright, remember you have one to two minutes…” der ve konuşmaya başlarsınız.
IELTS Speaking has three parts, and Part 2 is the middle “long turn” stage. In this part the examiner hands you a cue card (topic card). At the top of the card there is a topic, and below it 3-4 points beginning with “You should say…”. These points are a road map showing you what to talk about.
After you take the card, you have exactly 1 minute of preparation time. During this time you can make notes on the paper and pencil you are given. Then the examiner says “Alright, remember you have one to two minutes…” and you start speaking. The goal is to speak without interruption for 1-2 minutes.
The most critical difference in Part 2 is this: it is a monologue, not a dialogue. The examiner does not cut in, ask questions or correct you. They only keep the time. So you have to manage both what you say and the flow yourself. Most candidates go wrong at one of two extremes here: either they run out of things to say and dry up in 40 seconds, or they get stuck on a single point and never touch the others.
What does the assessment look at? Like the other parts, Part 2 is scored on four criteria: Fluency & Coherence (fluency and coherence), Lexical Resource (range of vocabulary), Grammatical Range & Accuracy (range and accuracy of grammar) and Pronunciation (pronunciation). Because you speak at length and without interruption, Part 2 is the most efficient section for displaying all four of these at once.
The golden rule for Band 7+: cover every point on the card, turn the topic into a story and fill the time. A point is not a single sentence; each point is a mini-paragraph to be expanded with description, emotion and reason.
That one minute is the most valuable 60 seconds of the exam; wasting it puts your whole talk at risk. The aim is not to write long sentences but to build a skeleton of key words that will remind you at a glance while you speak. Rehearse the steps below until they become a reflex.
Note: keep your notes as English key words; don't think in Turkish and translate. If you start thinking in English during preparation, you'll go into the talk more fluently too.
Band 7+ konuşmalar “bilgi” bakımından değil, işleniş bakımından zengindir. Aynı olay, betimleme, duygu, neden ve zaman çeşitliliğiyle iki kat uzun ve iki kat etkileyici anlatılabilir. Yani her maddeyi tek cümlede bırakma; onu genişlet.
Dört genişletme aracı:
| Kart maddesi | Genişletme yöntemi | Örnek genişletme (İngilizce) |
|---|---|---|
| Where is it? (Neresi?) | Betimleme + duyusal detay | It's a tiny fishing village on the north coast, with whitewashed houses and the smell of salt in the air. |
| How often do you go? (Ne sıklıkla?) | Zaman çeşitliliği (geçmiş→şimdi) | I used to go every single summer as a child, but these days I only manage to visit once a year. |
| What do you do there? (Ne yaparsın?) | Somut örnek + detay | I usually wander along the cliffs, eat freshly grilled fish, and leave my phone switched off the whole time. |
| Why do you like it? (Neden seversin?) | Duygu + neden + gelecek | It genuinely relaxes me because it reminds me of my childhood, and one day I'd love to take my own kids there. |
Süreyi doldurma kalıpları (ezberle):
Bu kalıplar “boşluk doldurucu” gibi görünse de aslında düşünmene zaman kazandırır ve konuşmayı doğal, sohbet havasında tutar. Ezberlenmiş uzun cümlelerden farkları, herhangi bir konuya uyabilmeleridir.
Band 7+ talks are rich not in “information” but in treatment. The same event can be told twice as long and twice as memorably through description, emotion, reason and a variety of tenses. So don't leave each point in a single sentence; expand it.
Four expansion tools:
| Card point | Expansion method | Example expansion (English) |
|---|---|---|
| Where is it? | Description + sensory detail | It's a tiny fishing village on the north coast, with whitewashed houses and the smell of salt in the air. |
| How often do you go? | Variety of tenses (past→present) | I used to go every single summer as a child, but these days I only manage to visit once a year. |
| What do you do there? | Concrete example + detail | I usually wander along the cliffs, eat freshly grilled fish, and leave my phone switched off the whole time. |
| Why do you like it? | Emotion + reason + future | It genuinely relaxes me because it reminds me of my childhood, and one day I'd love to take my own kids there. |
Time-filling phrases (memorise):
Even though these phrases may look like “fillers”, they actually buy you time to think and keep the talk natural, in a conversational tone. What sets them apart from long memorised sentences is that they fit any topic.
Şimdi gerçek bir cue card üzerinden tüm süreci görelim: kart, 1 dakikalık not, Band 7+ model konuşma ve adım adım Türkçe analiz.
Describe a place you like to visit.
You should say:
- where it is
- how often you go there
- what you do there
- and explain why you like this place.
1 dakikalık not (anahtar kelimeler):
Band 7+ model konuşma:
Adım adım Türkçe analiz:
Dikkat: Bu konuşma “ezber” değil, iskelet + genişletme ürünüdür. Aynı yapıyı (giriş → maddeleri zamanla dolaş → duygu/neden → gelecek kapanışı) neredeyse her cue card'a uygulayabilirsin.
Now let's walk through the whole process with a real cue card: the card, the 1-minute notes, a Band 7+ model talk and a step-by-step analysis.

1-minute notes (key words):
Band 7+ model talk:
Step-by-step analysis:
Note: this talk is not “rote memory” but the product of skeleton + expansion. You can apply almost the same structure (introduction → move through the points across tenses → emotion/reason → future closing) to nearly any cue card.
Bu tuzaklara düşme:
Bu hataların ortak paydası şudur: hazırlıksızlık ve panik. Düzenli prova ile 1 dakikalık not alma refleksini oturtursan, bu tuzakların çoğu kendiliğinden ortadan kalkar.
Don't fall into these traps:
The common denominator of these mistakes is this: lack of preparation and panic. If you settle the reflex of taking 1-minute notes through regular practice, most of these traps disappear on their own.
Konuşmadan önce ve sırasında kontrol et:
Son söz: Part 2'de amaç mükemmel bir konu bulmak değil, sıradan bir konuyu zengin, akıcı ve zaman çeşitliliğiyle anlatmaktır. İskeleti kur, hikâyeye dönüştür, süreyi doldur – Band 7+ bu üç adımda saklı.
Check before and during your talk:
A final word: the aim in Part 2 is not to find a perfect topic but to tell an ordinary topic in a rich, fluent way with a variety of tenses. Build the skeleton, turn it into a story, fill the time – Band 7+ is hidden in those three steps.
