Bu ara sınav, Ünite 1-8'de öğrendiğin her şeyi B2 seviyesinde ölçer: perfect zamanların ileri tekrarı; Future Continuous ve Future Perfect; Third Conditional; Mixed Conditionals; Wish & If Only; şimdiki zamana yönelik modal çıkarım (must / can't / might be); geçmişe yönelik modal çıkarım (must / can't / might have done); ve advanced passive (sürekli/mükemmel edilgen ve is said to rapor yapıları). Text 1 · The Four-Day Week

A decade ago, the idea of paying people the same salary for one day less of work each week would have seemed absurd to most business owners. Today, however, it is being taken seriously across the world. Dozens of companies, from small design studios to large charities, have already tested a four-day week, and the results have surprised almost everyone.

In the largest trial so far, around sixty British firms let their staff work four days instead of five, with no cut in pay. The organisers had expected productivity to fall slightly. Instead, in most companies it stayed the same or even rose. Employees reported lower stress, better sleep and fewer sick days. By the end of the trial, the great majority of the firms had decided to keep the shorter week for good.

Supporters argue that the traditional five-day week is simply a habit left over from the industrial past. If workers were given a proper rest, they say, they would return on Monday sharper and more motivated. Some managers have also noticed a surprising side effect: because time is suddenly limited, useless meetings are quickly cut and people focus on what really matters.

Not everyone is convinced, though. Critics point out that a four-day week is far easier in an office than in a hospital, a restaurant or a factory, where someone must always be present. In these industries, giving everyone an extra day off would mean hiring more staff, which many businesses simply cannot afford. There is also a worry that some employees do the same amount of work in fewer hours and end up more tired, not less.

Even the supporters admit that the four-day week is not a magic solution for every workplace. Yet the trials have changed the conversation. As one researcher put it, 'For a hundred years nobody questioned the five-day week. Now, at least, the question is being asked.' Whatever happens next, it seems unlikely that this debate will disappear any time soon.

When Layla was six, her family left Morocco and moved to a small town in the north of England. At home, her parents spoke Arabic, but at school everything happened in English. Within two years she had become fluent, and slowly, without even noticing, she began to answer her mother in English even when she was spoken to in Arabic.

By the time she was a teenager, Layla could barely hold a conversation in Arabic. She understood far more than she could say, but the words no longer came easily. She didn't mind at first; she felt completely British, and Arabic seemed to belong to a country she hardly remembered.

Everything changed the summer she turned nineteen, when the family flew back to Morocco for her grandmother's eightieth birthday. Layla had been looking forward to the trip, but when her relatives spoke to her, she froze. She could feel how much they wanted to talk to her, and yet she could hardly reply. That evening, for the first time, she felt like a stranger in her own family.

Back in England, Layla made a decision. She downloaded an app, found an online teacher, and started studying the language she had once spoken every single day. It was harder than she had expected — in some ways more difficult than learning it as a child — but this time she was determined. If she had given up then, she says, she would still feel that painful distance from her grandparents today.

Three years have passed, and Layla now speaks Arabic almost as easily as English. She has even started teaching other young people whose families come from abroad. 'A language is not just words,' she tells them. 'It is a door. If you close it, you lose a whole part of yourself. My advice is simple: keep the door open.'
