Selin has worked at Baytek since 2024, and in that time the company has changed a lot. When she joined, there were only twelve people in the office, and the design team was just three people. Now there are more than forty employees, and Selin has become the head of design — the youngest team leader in the company's history.
Her first year was not easy. While she was preparing her first big presentation, the company lost its most important client, and everybody was worried about the future. Some people left, but Selin stayed because she believed in the team. That winter, she worked on a project for a small hospital, and it won a national design prize in May. Since then, clients have taken the company much more seriously, and the phone has never stopped ringing.
Selin has never forgotten her worst day at Baytek. Two summers ago, she deleted a whole week of work by mistake while she was cleaning old files on the server. She has made many mistakes since her first day, she says, but that one taught her the most important lesson of her career: always make a copy before you touch anything.
Last month, the company moved to a bigger office near the sea. The move took three days, and everybody carried boxes while the rain was falling outside. Selin has already decorated the design room, but she hasn't unpacked all her boxes yet. "I have been here for two years," she says, "and this still feels like my first week — there is always something new. I haven't finished learning, and I hope I never will."

Baytek is going to have a very busy year. In February, the company is going to open a second office in Ankara, where about fifteen engineers will work. Mrs. Aydın, who has led the company for ten years, will manage both offices, but she isn't going to move to Ankara. "I'll travel there twice a month," she says. "If we find a good local manager, I won't have to go so often."
The biggest project is a health app which helps older people remember their medicine. The team that designed the hospital website is going to build it, and Selin will lead the design. The app must be ready before the end of June, because a big hospital group wants to test it in July. If the tests go well, the group will buy the app for all its hospitals. "It's the most important project we have ever had," says Selin. "Unless we plan every step carefully, we will lose this chance."
There are also some smaller plans. The company is going to hire five new designers, so Selin is preparing interview tasks these days. Workers who join before March will get an extra week of training. The kitchen, which is too small for forty people, is going to become a meeting room, and the company will build a bigger kitchen on the ground floor, where there is more space.
Not everyone is happy about every change. A few engineers think the new office is too far from the city centre, and they should not have to travel so much. But most people agree: next year is going to be the most exciting year in Baytek's history.
