gelişme = gerekçeler
Tartışma yazısında
gelişme = iki taraf
Problem-çözümde
gelişme = sorunlar ve çözümler
When we say "composition" in Turkish, one thing usually comes to mind: writing about a topic with nice sentences. In academic English, however, an essay is a family of types. Each type answers a different question, requires a different plan of thought and is built with a different paragraph architecture. Just as an engineer draws a different plan depending on whether they are building a bridge or a building, a good writer first asks, "Which type is this question asking me for?"
This topic teaches exactly this: when you look at an exam question or a writing task, to diagnose which essay type is wanted and to build the skeleton suited to that type. There are six basic types: opinion/argumentative, discussion, problem-solution, cause-effect, advantages-disadvantages and comparison. These are the backbone especially of IELTS Writing Task 2, TOEFL Independent Writing, university exam essays and academic assignments.
Why does it exist? Because academic writing is a way of thinking. Defending an idea, weighing two views, solving a problem or comparing two things are different mental operations; the language too is shaped to reflect that operation. The right type gives the reader the message "here is exactly what I am doing" from the very first paragraph.
The biggest parallel for the Turkish student: the "introduction-development-conclusion" pattern we remember from school. That is a correct start but insufficient; because the inside of the "development" is filled completely differently depending on the type:
In an opinion essay
development = reasons
In a discussion essay
development = two sides
In problem-solution
development = problems and solutions
- Önce soruyu oku, sonra planla: yapı seçimi her zaman soru kalıbından çıkar (Do you agree? / Discuss both / What problems?).
- Her türde iskelet aynı kalır: giriş (paraphrase + tez) → gövde paragrafları → sonuç. Değişen, gövdenin içeriğidir.
- Yanlış tür = düşük puan: İngilizcen kusursuz olsa bile görev tipini yanlış okursan Task Response puanın düşer.
- Essay = a family of types: not a single pattern; there are six main types and each answers a different question.
- Read the question first, then plan: the choice of structure always comes from the question pattern (Do you agree? / Discuss both / What problems?).
- Opinion: take a clear thesis, defend it with 2-3 reasons. Do not sit on the fence.
- Discussion: present both views in a balanced way, then state your own side. Do not write only your own view!
- Problem-solution: match each problem with a concrete, workable solution.
- Cause-effect: link the causes and the effects separately, with a chain of logic.
- Advantages-disadvantages: balance the pros/cons; in an "outweigh" question, decide which one weighs more.
- Comparison: compare similarities and differences systematically; do not jump around randomly.
- The skeleton stays the same in every type: introduction (paraphrase + thesis) → body paragraphs → conclusion. What changes is the content of the body.
- Wrong type = low score: even if your English is flawless, if you misread the task type your Task Response score drops.
Her essay türü aynı üç bölümlü omurgayı paylaşır: Giriş → Gövde paragrafları → Sonuç.
|---|---|
| Opinion / Argumentative | Tezini destekleyen 2-3 gerekçe (+ isteğe bağlı karşı görüş çürütme) |
| Discussion | 1 paragraf Görüş A, 1 paragraf Görüş B, kendi görüşün girişte/sonuçta |
| Problem-Solution | 1-2 paragraf problemler, 1-2 paragraf çözümler |
| Cause-Effect | 1-2 paragraf nedenler, 1-2 paragraf sonuçlar/etkiler |
| Advantages-Disadvantages | 1 paragraf avantajlar, 1 paragraf dezavantajlar (+ tartma) |
| Compare-Contrast | Benzerlikler + farklar (blok ya da nokta-nokta düzen) |
Every essay type shares the same three-part spine: Introduction → Body paragraphs → Conclusion. The only thing that changes is the content of the body. Let us first build the common skeleton, then see how it is filled according to the type.
The common skeleton (all types)
Formula: Introduction = [paraphrase the question] + [thesis/general approach]. Body = [topic sentence + explanation + example] × 2-3. Conclusion = [restate the thesis] + [final evaluation].
Positive / opposing / questioning tones
In an essay you do not only build "correct" sentences; you balance affirming, opposing and questioning tones. Below are three tones of the same idea:
| Type | What the body paragraphs contain |
|---|---|
| Opinion / Argumentative | 2-3 reasons supporting your thesis (+ optionally refuting the counter-view) |
| Discussion | 1 paragraph View A, 1 paragraph View B, your own view in the intro/conclusion |
| Problem-Solution | 1-2 paragraphs of problems, 1-2 paragraphs of solutions |
| Cause-Effect | 1-2 paragraphs of causes, 1-2 paragraphs of results/effects |
| Advantages-Disadvantages | 1 paragraph advantages, 1 paragraph disadvantages (+ weighing) |
| Compare-Contrast | Similarities + differences (block or point-by-point arrangement) |
Kaleme davranmadan önce yönergedeki anahtar kelimeyi işaretle: agree/disagree tek taraf, discuss both iki taraf, problems/solutions sorun-çözüm demektir. Tür teşhisi, doğru planın yarısıdır.
1) Görüş / Argümantatif (Opinion / Argumentative)
Soru kalıbı: "Do you agree or disagree?", "To what extent do you agree?", "What is your opinion?". "To what extent" (ne ölçüde) sorusunda kısmi katılım da mümkündür ("largely agree but...").
2) Tartışma (Discussion — 'Discuss both views')
Soru kalıbı: "Discuss both these views and give your own opinion."
Soru kalıbı: "What problems does this cause and what solutions can you suggest?" Görev: Bir sorunu tanımla ve ona somut, uygulanabilir çözümler eşle. En sık hata: soyut çözümler ("people should be more careful").
Soru kalıbı: "What are the causes of X and what effects does it have?" Görev: Bir olgunun nedenlerini ve etkilerini mantık zinciriyle ayrı ayrı açıkla. En sık hata: neden ile sonucu karıştırmak. Nedenler "neden oluyor?", etkiler "ne olur?" sorusuna cevap verir.
5) Avantaj-Dezavantaj (Advantages-Disadvantages)
Soru kalıbı: "What are the advantages and disadvantages?" veya "Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?" Görev: Artıları ve eksileri dengeli sun. Dikkat: "outweigh" (ağır basmak) sorusunda karar vermelisin — hangi taraf daha ağır? Sadece listelemek yetmez; tartıp bir yargıya varmalısın.
6) Karşılaştır-Karşıtla (Compare-Contrast)
Soru kalıbı: İki seçenek/dönem/yaklaşım kıyaslanır (ör. "Compare traditional and online education"). Görev: Benzerlikleri ve farkları sistematik sun. İki düzen vardır: blok düzeni (önce A'nın hepsi, sonra B'nin hepsi) veya nokta-nokta düzeni (her paragrafta bir ölçüt üzerinden A ve B). En sık hata: rastgele sıçrayarak kıyaslamak.
Now let us open up the six types one by one, with question pattern + plan + example sentences. We start with the most common (opinion) and move towards the more specialised. For each type we will give first how to recognise the question, then the plan, then the example sentences.
Before you touch the pen, mark the key word in the prompt: agree/disagree means one side, discuss both two sides, problems/solutions problem-solution. Diagnosing the type is half of the right plan.
1) Opinion / Argumentative
Question pattern: "Do you agree or disagree?", "To what extent do you agree?", "What is your opinion?". Task: Take a clear position and defend it with 2-3 reasons. The most common error: sitting on the fence. Choose a side and stand behind it all the way. In a "To what extent" question a partial agreement is also possible ("largely agree but...").
2) Discussion ('Discuss both views')
Question pattern: "Discuss both these views and give your own opinion." Task: Present both opposing views fairly and in a balanced way, then state your own view. The most common error: writing only your own view and neglecting the other side. One body paragraph is devoted to view A, one body paragraph to view B; your own view is stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion.
3) Problem-Solution
Question pattern: "What problems does this cause and what solutions can you suggest?" Task: Define a problem and match it with concrete, workable solutions. The most common error: abstract solutions ("people should be more careful"). Each solution must be linked to a specific actor (government, schools, individuals) and a mechanism.
4) Cause-Effect
Question pattern: "What are the causes of X and what effects does it have?" Task: Explain the causes and the effects of a phenomenon separately, with a chain of logic. The most common error: confusing cause with effect. Causes answer "why does it happen?", effects answer "what happens?".
5) Advantages-Disadvantages
Question pattern: "What are the advantages and disadvantages?" or "Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?" Task: Present the pros and cons in a balanced way. Note: in an "outweigh" question you must decide — which side is heavier? Merely listing is not enough; you must weigh them and reach a judgement.
6) Compare-Contrast
Question pattern: Two options/periods/approaches are compared (e.g. "Compare traditional and online education"). Task: Present similarities and differences systematically. There are two arrangements: the block arrangement (first all of A, then all of B) or the point-by-point arrangement (A and B on one criterion per paragraph). The most common error: comparing by jumping around randomly.
|---|---|---|
| Do you agree or disagree? / To what extent...? | Görüş | Tez + 2-3 gerekçe |
| Discuss both views and give your opinion. | Tartışma | Görüş A + Görüş B + kendi görüşün |
| What problems...? What solutions...? | Problem-çözüm | Problemler + çözümler |
| What are the causes...? What effects...? | Neden-sonuç | Nedenler + etkiler |
| Advantages and disadvantages? / outweigh? | Avantaj-dezavantaj | Artılar + eksiler (+ karar) |
| Compare... / What are the differences...? | Karşılaştırma | Benzerlikler + farklar |
| Why...? / What has caused...? | Neden-sonuç (neden ağırlıklı) | Neden zinciri |
Instead of time expressions, what is critical in this topic is the question signal words: which word in the question points to which type? The table below offers a map so you can diagnose the type the moment you see it in the exam.
| Expression in the question | Type required | Short plan |
|---|---|---|
| Do you agree or disagree? / To what extent...? | Opinion | Thesis + 2-3 reasons |
| Discuss both views and give your opinion. | Discussion | View A + View B + your own view |
| What problems...? What solutions...? | Problem-solution | Problems + solutions |
| What are the causes...? What effects...? | Cause-effect | Causes + effects |
| Advantages and disadvantages? / outweigh? | Advantages-disadvantages | Pros + cons (+ decision) |
| Compare... / What are the differences...? | Comparison | Similarities + differences |
| Why...? / What has caused...? | Cause-effect (cause-weighted) | A chain of causes |
Kesinlik derecesi (hedging). Akademik yazı aşırı kesin ifadelerden kaçınır. "This always causes..." yerine "This can often lead to..." demek daha güvenlidir; çünkü mutlak iddialar kolayca çürütülür.
"The most compelling reason..." gibi ifadelerle okuyucuya hangi argümanın ağır olduğunu söylemek, savını yönetmenin bir yoludur.
Choosing the type is only half the job; the second half is tone, certainty and stance. The same idea can be presented with different degrees of certainty, and this determines the maturity of the writing.
Degree of certainty (hedging). Academic writing avoids over-absolute expressions. Saying "This can often lead to..." is safer than "This always causes..."; because absolute claims are easily refuted. This is a subtlety at the heart of argumentation: a good advocate scales their claim carefully enough that it cannot be refuted.
Clarity of stance. Sitting on the fence is a weakness in an opinion essay; but taking sides too early upsets the balance in a discussion essay. So the advice "be clear" depends on the type: a clear thesis in opinion, a balanced presentation + a clear conclusion in discussion.
Emphasis and ordering by importance. Starting your reasons from the strongest (or saving the strongest for last) is a rhetorical choice. Telling the reader which argument is the heavy one with expressions like "The most compelling reason..." is a way of managing your case.
- 'Ben' vurgusu. Türkçede 'bence' çok sık geçebilir; İngilizce akademik yazıda 'In my opinion' aşırı tekrar edilmez, bir kez net konumlandırılır.
- Bağlaç eksikliği. Türkçe cümleler eklerle bağlanır; İngilizcede geçiş sözcükleri (however, therefore, moreover) açıkça yazılmalıdır.
Most of the traps a Turkish student falls into when writing an essay come not from grammar but from Turkish writing culture. The Turkish academic/literary tradition favours a more circular, associative structure that lengthens the opening sentence; English academic writing, by contrast, is direct, thesis-first and linear.
Turkish writing culture
Circular and associative; it saves the thesis for the end, lengthens the introduction, and rewards the ornate sentence.
English academic writing
Linear and thesis-first; it gives the idea in the introduction, advances with example/reason, and writes transition words explicitly.
- Delaying the thesis. In Turkish, saving the idea for the end can be considered elegant; in English the thesis is stated clearly in the introduction. The reader wants to know what you are arguing from the very first paragraph.
- Evidence instead of ornament. In a Turkish composition, beautiful/literary sentences can earn points; in an English essay, points come not from vague beauty but from concrete examples and reasons.
- The 'I' emphasis. In Turkish 'bence' (in my opinion) can occur very often; in English academic writing 'In my opinion' is not overused, it is positioned clearly once.
- Lack of connectors. Turkish clauses are linked with suffixes; in English the transition words (however, therefore, moreover) must be written explicitly.
Essay türleri, bazı yakın konularla karıştırılır. Aşağıdaki tablo farkları netleştirir; ilgili konulara çapraz-link verilmiştir.
| Kavram | Odağı | Essay türlerinden farkı |
|---|---|---|
| Tez cümlesi | Denemenin ana iddiasını tek cümlede kurmak | Bir türün parçasıdır; türü değil, o türün içindeki 'pozisyon cümlesini' belirler. |
| Paragraf yapısı | Tek bir paragrafın iç mimarisi (konu cümlesi + destek) | Essay türü bütünün planıdır; paragraf yapısı her gövde paragrafının içidir. |
| Argümantasyon | İddia-gerekçe-kanıt-çürütme mantığı | Özellikle görüş/tartışma türlerinin motorudur; ama tür seçimi ayrı bir stratejik karardır. |
| Yönlendirme sözcükleri (signposting) | Okuyucuyu yönlendiren geçiş ifadeleri | Her türde kullanılır; türü belirlemez, türün içinde akışı sağlar. |
Essay types are confused with a few close topics. The table below clarifies the differences; cross-links to the related topics are given.
| Concept | Its focus | Difference from essay types |
|---|---|---|
| Thesis statement | Building the essay's main claim in a single sentence | It is a part of a type; it determines not the type but the 'position sentence' within that type. |
| Paragraph structure | The internal architecture of a single paragraph (topic sentence + support) | The essay type is the plan of the whole; paragraph structure is the inside of each body paragraph. |
| Argumentation | The logic of claim-reason-evidence-refutation | It is the engine especially of the opinion/discussion types; but choosing the type is a separate strategic decision. |
| Signposting words | Transition expressions that guide the reader | Used in every type; it does not determine the type but provides the flow within it. |
Although the six types look like clear categories, real questions are often hybrid and the boundaries of the types can blur. An advanced writer uses this flexibility deliberately.
Essay types are fundamentally a written skill, but the logic of type carries over into speech too: giving an opinion in a debate, weighing two sides or presenting a problem-solution is part of everyday life. The dialogue below shows two students working out an essay question.
Akademik bağlamda essay türleri, üniversite ödevlerinden sınav yazılarına kadar her yerdedir. Akademik register üç şeyi ister: resmiyet (kısaltma yok, gündelik deyim yok), nesnellik (aşırı duygusal dil yerine kanıt) ve üst-söylem (okuyucuyu yönlendiren 'This essay argues...' türü ifadeler). Aşağıdaki cümleler akademik tonu gösterir.
- Bu kısa akademik paragraf bir tartışma (discussion) yapısını gösterir: Görüş A (Proponents) + Görüş B (Opponents) + kendi yargı (On balance).
- 'with some justification' ve 'On balance' gibi hedging/tartma ifadeleri akademik olgunluğun işaretidir.
- Register tamamen resmi: kısaltma yok, gündelik deyim yok, kanıta ('the evidence suggests') dayalı.
- Üst-söylem 'The essay therefore concludes' okuyucuyu yapının neresinde olduğuna dair yönlendirir.
In an academic context, essay types are everywhere, from university assignments to exam essays. Academic register demands three things: formality (no contractions, no casual idioms), objectivity (evidence instead of over-emotional language) and metadiscourse ('This essay argues...'-type expressions that guide the reader). The sentences below show the academic tone.
- This short academic paragraph shows a discussion structure: View A (Proponents) + View B (Opponents) + your own judgement (On balance).
- Hedging/weighing expressions like 'with some justification' and 'On balance' are marks of academic maturity.
- The counter-view is presented fairly and objectively with 'Opponents contend'; there is no subjective attack.
- The conclusion states a clear synthesising judgement with 'neither extreme serves society well' — it does not sit on the fence.
- The register is entirely formal: no contractions, no casual idioms, evidence-based ('the evidence suggests').
- The metadiscourse 'The essay therefore concludes' guides the reader as to where in the structure they are.
- Metnin ana tezi doğrudan bu konunun kalbi: yazmadan önce türü teşhis et.
- Uzay örneği üzerinden 'discussion' ile 'opinion' türlerinin farkı somut biçimde gösteriliyor.
- 'buried in the final sentence' ifadesi, öğrencilerin yönergenin kritik kısmını nasıl kaçırdığını vurguluyor.
- Discussion planı açıkça anlatılıyor: bir paragraf her görüş + kendi görüş sonda.
- Opinion planı karşıtlıkla veriliyor: baştan net tutum + 2-3 gerekçe + karşı argüman çürütme.
- Kapanış cümlesi ('half the battle is already won') akılda kalıcı bir vurguyla konunun stratejik önemini pekiştiriyor.
- Register akademik ama okunabilir; 'read the instruction words before you plan' pratik bir tavsiye olarak öne çıkıyor.
- The main thesis of the text is directly the heart of this topic: diagnose the type before writing.
- The difference between the 'discussion' and 'opinion' types is shown concretely through the space example.
- The phrase 'buried in the final sentence' stresses how students miss the critical part of the prompt.
- The discussion plan is explained clearly: one paragraph per view + your own view at the end.
- The opinion plan is given by contrast: a clear stance from the start + 2-3 reasons + refuting the counter-argument.
- The closing sentence ('half the battle is already won') reinforces the strategic importance of the topic with a memorable emphasis.
- The register is academic but readable; 'read the instruction words before you plan' stands out as a practical piece of advice.

- "Do you agree or disagree that zoos should be banned?"Görüş (opinion).
- "Some think fame brings happiness; others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion."Tartışma (discussion). Plan: bir paragraf 'fame = happiness' görüşü, bir paragraf karşıt görüş, kendi görüş girişte/sonuçta.
- "What problems does traffic congestion cause and how can they be solved?"Problem-çözüm. Plan: problemler paragraf(lar)ı + her soruna somut çözüm eşleyen paragraf(lar).
- "Do the advantages of studying abroad outweigh the disadvantages?"Avantaj-dezavantaj (outweigh). Plan: avantajlar + dezavantajlar + hangisinin ağır bastığına dair NET karar.
- "What are the causes of rising obesity and what effects does it have on society?"Neden-sonuç. Plan: nedenler paragraf(lar)ı + etkiler paragraf(lar)ı. Neden ile etkiyi karıştırma.
- "Neden bir tartışma (discussion) sorusunda sadece kendi görüşünü yazmak puan kaybettirir?"Çünkü soru her iki görüşü de adil sunmanı ister; sadece kendi tarafını yazmak görev tipini yerine getirmemektir ve Task Response kriterinden puan düşürür.
The questions below check not rote learning of rules but understanding: can you look at a given question and diagnose which type is wanted and what the plan should be?
- "Do you agree or disagree that zoos should be banned?"Opinion. Plan: a clear thesis (agree or disagree) + 2-3 reasons. Do not sit on the fence.
- "Some think fame brings happiness; others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion."Discussion. Plan: one paragraph for the 'fame = happiness' view, one paragraph for the opposing view, your own view in the intro/conclusion.
- "What problems does traffic congestion cause and how can they be solved?"Problem-solution. Plan: paragraph(s) of problems + paragraph(s) matching each problem with a concrete solution.
- "Do the advantages of studying abroad outweigh the disadvantages?"Advantages-disadvantages (outweigh). Plan: advantages + disadvantages + a CLEAR decision on which one weighs more.
- "What are the causes of rising obesity and what effects does it have on society?"Cause-effect. Plan: paragraph(s) of causes + paragraph(s) of effects. Do not confuse cause with effect.
- "Why does writing only your own view in a discussion question lose points?"Because the question asks you to present both views fairly; writing only your own side is failing to do the task type and lowers the score under the Task Response criterion.
- "Discuss both views" sorusu bir ______ yazısıdır.tartışma (discussion)

- 'The solution is people should be more careful.'Somut çözüm gerekir: 'One solution is for the government to introduce fines for littering.' Belirli aktör + mekanizma.
- [Discussion sorusuna sadece kendi görüşü] 'I think homework is bad, reason 1, reason 2, reason 3.'İki görüş de sunulmalı: 'Some argue homework helps..., others believe it harms...; in my view...'
- 'The main cause of pollution is that the air is dirty.'Bu neden değil, tanım/sonuç. Gerçek neden: 'The main cause is reliance on fossil fuels.'
- Bir yandan savunucular X'i öne sürer; öte yandan eleştirmenler Y'yi savunur. On the one hand, proponents put forward X; on the other hand, critics maintain Y.
- Genel olarak, uzaktan çalışmanın esnekliği sakıncalarına ağır basar. On balance, the flexibility of remote work outweighs its drawbacks.
- Uygulanabilir bir çözüm, hükümetlerin plastiğe vergi getirmesi olurdu.A viable solution would be for governments to impose a tax on plastic.

Görev: Aşağıdaki soruya, doğru türü teşhis edip yaklaşık 250 kelimelik bir deneme planı + giriş paragrafı yaz. Soru: "In many countries, people are choosing to have children later in life. What are the reasons for this, and does it have a positive or negative effect on society?"
Task: For the question below, diagnose the correct type and write a plan + introductory paragraph of about 250 words. Question: "In many countries, people are choosing to have children later in life. What are the reasons for this, and does it have a positive or negative effect on society?"
Guiding questions: (1) Which type(s) is this? (2) How many body paragraphs, and what will each contain? (3) How will you paraphrase the question in the introductory sentences? (4) Where will you give your own judgement? (5) Can you match each reason and effect with a concrete example?
Questions for concept checking: 'Does this question ask you to choose a side, or to present both sides?' / 'What does the word "outweigh" here force you to do?' / 'Is this a solution, or just a wish (people should...)?' These questions test not the rule but understanding.
Activity suggestion: 'Type-matching cards' — question patterns on one side, type names on the other; students match them. Then a 'plan race': whoever draws the correct skeleton fastest for a given question wins. The writing itself is given as homework; class time is devoted to diagnosis and planning, because that is the real skill.
- Essay bir tür ailesidir: altı temel tür (görüş, tartışma, problem-çözüm, neden-sonuç, avantaj-dezavantaj, karşılaştırma) ve her birinin kendi soru kalıbı, planı vardır.
- Önce soruyu oku, sonra planla: yapı seçimi her zaman yönerge kelimelerinden çıkar — bu, tüm becerinin kalbidir.
- Görüş = net tez; kararsız kalmak zayıflıktır.
- Tartışma = iki görüş + kendi görüşün; sadece kendi tarafını yazmak en pahalı hatadır.
- Problem-çözüm = somut çözüm (aktör + mekanizma), 'insanlar dikkatli olmalı' değil.
- Neden-sonuç = neden ile etkiyi ayır; ikisini karıştırma.
- Avantaj-dezavantaj = 'outweigh' sorusunda karar ver; sadece listelemek yetmez.
- Ortak iskelet her türde aynı: giriş (paraphrase + tez) → gövde → sonuç (tezi topla, yeni fikir yok).
- Olgunluk = nüans: mutlak iddialardan kaçın, hedging kullan; C2 tür sınırlarını bilinçli aşar.
- Türkçe tuzakları: tezi geciktirme, klişe açılış ('as known by everyone'), görüş ifadesi tekrarı, bağlaçsız listeleme.
- İlgili konular: tez cümlesi, paragraf yapısı ve argümantasyon.
- An essay is a family of types: six basic types (opinion, discussion, problem-solution, cause-effect, advantages-disadvantages, comparison), each with its own question pattern and plan.
- Read the question first, then plan: the choice of structure always comes from the instruction words — this is the heart of the whole skill.
- Opinion = a clear thesis; sitting on the fence is a weakness.
- Discussion = two views + your own view; writing only your own side is the costliest error.
- Problem-solution = a concrete solution (actor + mechanism), not 'people should be careful'.
- Cause-effect = separate cause from effect; do not confuse the two.
- Advantages-disadvantages = decide in an 'outweigh' question; merely listing is not enough.
- Comparison = a systematic comparison (block or point-by-point), not random jumping.
- The common skeleton is the same in every type: introduction (paraphrase + thesis) → body → conclusion (gather up the thesis, no new idea).
- Maturity = nuance: avoid absolute claims, use hedging; C2 crosses the boundaries of the types deliberately.
- Turkish traps: delaying the thesis, a cliché opening ('as known by everyone'), repeating opinion expressions, listing without connectors.
